Description of 1969 Ford Bronco |
For sale: 1969 Ford Bronco Sport 4x4, sold new and lived on a ranch in dry southern California, never seen salt. Owners retired to Montana and brought it up with them, where I bought it. Factory chalk marks are still visible on the underside of the truck. Complete with full set of original manuals and factory jack/handle/lug wrench. 98 percent rust free and solid, running and driving project that needs body/paint and interior. These days it seems early Broncos for sale fall into two categories - fully restored rigs, and field rotted hulls. Driver trucks have all but disappeared, this Bronco is one of the few left. Good solid truck that you can drive and improve, or heaven forbid, actually use it for something other than posing at Starbucks. See linked Photobucket for close up pics including underside. Would be great for a mudding/wheeling truck, but with the options it has - factory Sport package, V8, and Candyapple red color, it'd be a shame not to restore it. Marti Report in the photos. I'll do my best to describe it below: Exterior: Looks decent from 20 feet, could use as is if you just need a working Bronco, snowplow rig, or mudder. Very dry truck with only minimal rust - the only spots I can see are the typical spot on each side under hood on inner fender, and a few small pits on tailgate. See linked Photobucket album for pics of all areas including underside. To look nice, the body would need re-do of previous repairs. From what I was told, one of the ranch hands tipped it over on a sidehill, and the ranch did a quickie repair job with filler and kept right on using it. Now many years later, the filler has cracked off in spots. Needs hood and front fenders replaced (thankfully quality parts are all available now at reasonable cost), the top replaced or soft top installed, and some repair to doors and tub. Don't see any damage from inside tub. I took the truck to the local frame shop, and the frame is straight, shop said it was the best early Bronco frame they'd ever seen. You can still see the factory chalk marks underneath. It did have the usual crack near the steering box, which they repaired. Glass is all good, windshield has a few small chips. I replaced both front and rear bumpers with new chrome units. Great solid base for a restoration. Interior: Driver condition, very original, needs redone to be nice. Upholstery is original, and still has factory "Bronco" floor mat in place. Wipers, heater, etc are working, see function list below. Visors, horn ring, and door cards are missing, thankfully they are readily available from any of the Bronco vendors. Mechanical: Starts, runs, and drives and it's low mile at 114k. Original motor is very quiet/smooth with no noticeable noise, smoke, or leaks. Literally purrs. Very correct and stock under hood with original air cleaner, California emissions sticker, and factory jack/handle/lug wrench. Still has original yellow top coil, fan shroud, dual diaphragm vacuum advance, and original "69 302" engine tag. I tested the 4x4 in high and low range, and the hubs turn in freely and transfer case shifts smoothly. I drove up to 50mph with the hubs in. Rear tires in good condition but fronts are marginal. Wanders and follows ruts with these tires, that will need attention before much driving at anything other than in-town speeds. Brakes stop fine but does pull to the right on hard stops. Previous owners stated both fuel tanks work, I've only used main tank. I've been putting around town in it, and it's a fun little rig. Pricing/Misc: If you've been searching for an early Bronco, you know that prices have gotten absolutely nutty in the last 5 years. One went $70k at Mecum this year and I personally sold a good original survivor here on Ebay this spring for $33k. Affordable early Broncos are few and far between. This truck is NO RESERVE and will sell. Might be a chance to pick up a decent early Bronco at a good price. LINK TO ADDITIONAL PICS INCLUDING UNDERSIDE (copy and paste) - just ask if you need more. Photobucket is clunky, just close the popups and if you have trouble viewing pics try the Firefox browser. I'm currently looking for a better photo hosting site. http://s261.photobucket.com/user/burgundyamx/library/69br?sort=3&page=1 ****Shipping will be from Helena, MT. I-15 and I-90 both very near, transport is reasonable. Zip code for shipping quote use 59601***** This rig runs and drives, but flying in and driving it home long distance isn't a good option. Montana is a huge state and it's a long way between towns. In many areas there are few services, and poor or no cell service. Truck transport for this Bronco isreadily available and affordable.
