Description of 1972 Ford Other Pickups |
1972 Ford CourierCalifornia Barn FindOriginal Paint Survivorin storage at least 9 years NO RESERVE This 1972 Ford Courier is from a large private California collection this example is one of 4 original Ford Couriers he owned each one in the same Yellow/Gold color. The owner was born in the early 1920's and was a huge vintage Ford fan with hundred's of Ford cars and trucks from the 1920's through the 1970s. The name Ford Courier was used from 1952 to 1960 which on sedan delivery based on Ford's US mainstream passenger vehicle range of those model years. When Ford brought the familiar name back for a little mini truck which was for this Ford enthusiast just the ticket. He loved Ford's and he loved these little trucks and overlooked the fact they were manufactured in Japan by Mazda and imported by Ford.He owned many different properties throughout the state of California and kept a different Courier at 4 of these locations. These little trucks were as he referred to as "motorized wheelbarrows" this particular example was kept at his Santa Cruz home parked in the garage next to a 1979 Mercedes 450SL each vehicle was used for a different purpose at this location in the 70's and 80's this one was used for running errands or trips to the store. This 1972 was the first generation of the Ford Courier name plate on the compact pickup manufactured in Japan by Mazda. It offered greater fuel economy than the full-sized pickups of the time and was sold by Ford as a response to the unforeseen popularity of the small Toyota and Datsun pickups. This nearly half a century year old truck was sold new 47 years ago in San Leandro California by Ed Chovanes Ford. This was one of the first ones to reach are shores and like the other minipickups of the time, featured a sub 2-liter, four cylinder the first ones came standard with a 1.8-liter overhead-cam engine which produced 74 horsepower paired to a 4-speed manual transmission and rear wheel drive. She fires up and runs great. The brakes and wheel cylinders were just replaced and the cute little truck fires up and runs great. This example is one of the early models as evident by the Courier badging with "COURIER" in large raised letters with a small "FORD" badge on the upper left. The 1972 model has a small "Courier" badge on the front driver's side edge of the hood. And from 1973-1976, the hood badging read Ford. The front styling was designed to emulate the larger Ford F-series, and large single headlights instead of the Mazda B-series smaller twin units. This little motorized "wheelbarrow" runs and drives great. She fires up and runs great. It will take you back to a simpler time. In 1972 this was as close to a 1930 Model A pickup you could find and the fact it was a Ford made this owner buy 4 of them. This is a cute and original piece of California history that runs and drives well with all new brakes. The last time the fee's were paid was 2011 . This vehicle has been sitting a lot longer than that the most ware on this vehicle has been lack of use. It was stored for many years in a giant building with a vault like basement where all the trucks were stored if not at a specic location in the case of this truck Santa Cruz. It is a true California survivor. It is also a 47 year Japanese import. This is the last one to sell and also the most significantbeing an early first year Courier This listing includes almost 200 detailed photos and the vehicle has been described as descriptive as possible.
