Description of 1960 Ford Thunderbird Coupe |
1960 Ford Thunderbird - Long Term Ownership - 352ci V8 - Restored Approximately 15 years ago - (Please note: If you happen to be viewing this vehicle on a website other than our main website, it's possible that only some of our many photographs of this car are not presented due to website limitations. To be sure you access all the photographs, please go to our main website: Garage Kept Motors.) After 56 years of ownership, our client is parting ways with this classic second generation Thunderbird. Originally purchased the day of Kennedy's Assassination, this car has been around for a number of other historical events, and as a Thunderbird has made its mark on automotive history as well. This is a well cared for example of an American icon. The styling of the second generation Thunderbird was a bit of a gamble for Ford. Going from a small 2 seat convertible, to a much bigger, 4 passenger coupe or convertible. Some of the same styling cues were carried over to the new generation though the overall size made this car more of a personal luxury car than a sports car. Ford's gamble paid off with sales of the bigger, new Thunderbird taking off. This bird left the Wixom Michigan production plant painted Corinthian White (code M), although the bright red that the car now wears looks great paired with the contrasting black roof. Our client, who has owned this car since November of 1963 was a paint and body technician by trade, so when he decided to restore the car about 15 years ago he chose a different paint color. He explained that he liked to have vehicles that looked different than others on the road, and that he enjoyed the process of working on his vehicles. The black trimmed interior is full of swooping lines, and angles. A center console stretches between the drivers and passengers bucket seats, and clear symmetrical gauges are easily visible as the driver looks past the large rimmed, three spoke steering wheel. Ford's 352ci V8 is nestled in a tidy engine bay. Yellow valve covers and a white air cleaner cover are the first details under the hood that catch your eye. The original drivetrain includes a Cruise-O-Matic transmission. Dubbed 'The World's Most Wanted Car' by Ford in their advertising for the '60 T-Bird, this car should be on your most wanted list. Make your own history in this awesome Thunderbird! Be sure to check out all the photos and video on our main website: Garage Kept Motors. Call if interested or e-mail with any questions.
