Description of 1961 Ford Thunderbird

These bullet-nose T-birds have a style that's always in demand. So to find a well-maintained 1961 Ford Thunderbird that retains a ton of its originality really gives you a nice V8 coupe no matter if you're looking for a period-correct classic or the best slate for your restomod dreams.

The reason why these 3rd gen Thunderbirds will always remain popular is because it's hard to find a more detailed car for the '60s. The sharp crease of the front fenders is complemented by the pointed hood scoop. The full-length trim gives this car a beautiful sweeping line that does everything from integrate the door handles to give this coupe a hint of tailfin. The bumpers are an almost seamless part of the design both front and rear. This car even knows how to expertly blend grace and speed. After all, where else do you get rear fender skirts and afterburner-style taillights all on the same car? So with such a detail-oriented package, it gets us excited to have a car that is presented so crisp and complete. Everything from the factory-correct Corinthian White, to the complete brightwork package all seem to be more about giving this an honest look rather that over-restored.

Inside is more of the well-preserved look, and we're big fans of the distinct white exterior with red interior total package. So it's quite nice that this coupe was born this way. This is a personal luxury car, and so everyone get bucket seat comfort, even the rear. It's quite a stylish setup with the dual cowl dash and an aluminum lower section that wraps around the doors and cascades like waterfall in the center. So yes, the same detail-oriented approach of the exterior will also have you loving the look of the interior. As a true period-correct machine, there are nice 1960s-style premium features on display, like the AM radio, full heat/defrost system, power windows, and power locks (these will need serving to be fully functional.) And because this is meant to be the kind of cruiser you can enjoy today, the artful gauges are supplemented by similar-looking handy amp and oil pressure readouts.

Ford's large 390 cubic-inch V8 and a four-barrel carburetor created the right kind of power for the Thunderbird. And the presentation under the hood is more of that vintage-style originality - right down to the details like washer fluid bag and Thunderbird valve covers. In fact, the motor's casting date fits ideally into the car's timeline, and so it's believed to be original to the car. It fires up and runs with the kind of feeling that tells you this is a well-respected classic. The Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission is also believed to be original, and it works in conjunction with the power steering and power brakes to deliver an easy cruising feeling.

This is a shining white T-bird with whitewalls that runs smooth and looks absolutely vintage. That makes for the kind of package you know you want to get your hands on right now. Call today!!!
