Description of 1963 Ford Fairlane 500 |
This 1963 Ford Fairlane 500 has a true rat rod style, right down to the texture of the flat black paint. But take a moment to go a bit deeper. Not only do you get the upgrade in V8 power that you'd expect on a street machine, but also there are some unexpected luxuries, like a modern Bluetooth stereo and cold A/C. Now you understand that this one wants to look mean, but it also never wants to put you in the penalty box. This car has a serious attitude you can instantly see from the first impression. The hot rod flat black has a textured look like it was just added so that this one could go out a be a Saturday Night Special. But even with this street machine attitude, you still see what makes these Fairlane 500s classically attractive with the full-length trim, jet-inspired taillights, and formal roof treatment. It's a very complete presentation, so you may very well be thinking about how the price leave room in the budget for a respray. But we really like this one the way it already is. It displays a cool street-ready attitude, right down to the competition-style American Racing Torq Thrust wheels with an aggressive stance staggered at 14/15 inches front/rear. The interior continues the rad rod presentation, but with a bit more thoughtfulness. You see it in details like the way the southwest-style blanket covering the rear seats coordinates with the updated carpeting. Up front, you have high-back bucket seats for added comfort. There are even thoughtful additions, like an AM/FM/CD stereo with Bluetooth and air conditioning blowing cold with modern R134a. Of course, this car's priority is performance. That's why you have a grippy three-spoke sports steering wheel, an upgraded SunPro gauge package, and a TCI floor shifter. Under the hood is Ford's famously hardy 351 cubic-inch Windsor V8. It has the right performance upgrades, like a Summit Racing 600 CFM four-barrel carburetor, Weiand intake, and headers feeding the dual exhaust. There are also the right supporting components, too. This includes a new distributor with new Taylor wires, new gas tank/fuel system, and a large aluminum radiator. It's a powerful package that starts eagerly and runs strong. This makes it easy to enjoy this Ford. That's also why you have a three-speed automatic transmission, power steering, and front disc brakes. This Fairlane 500 has a cool street-eating look, and plenty of worthwhile upgrades you never expected. It makes for a secretly rewarding classic you need to get your hands on right now.
