Description of 1940 Ford Other Deluxe 2 door Sedan Delivery

1940 Ford Sedan Deliveries were made in small numbers. 5. 31 compared to the total Ford production of 591. 10 cars and light trucks for that year. As Sedan Deliveries were commercial vehicles. most were driven by employees. not owners. and were used hard. ending up in scrap yards after short years of service. Today 1940 Ford Sedan Deliveries are extremely scarce. The beautiful 1940 Fords. along with Lincolns. were an instant success because of their beautiful lines and attention to details. That adoration remains today. although many street rod builders believe they can improve on Gregorie's design with quite often silly and often ugly ideas of their own. Our approach was different. We wanted the car to look like it was originally conceived. a Detroit product. not something from another planet. Our changes were subtle . The top was lowered 2" with an accent ridge added between the top and sides to add interest and accentuate the length of the body. Wider doors were used with the "B" pillar tipped forward. All three doors were equipped with key-less entry and power windows. The windshield was vee butted. Studebaker tail lights were used. The license plate was recessed into the rear door. The fuel filler pipe was enclosed behind a door and a power antenna was nestled in the right front fender. The purpose of bumpers are to protect the body. something that cute little nerf bars cannot adequately do. We took raw 1940 Ford bumpers. welded mounting studs and chrome plated them. to provide smooth substantial protection. We chose Garnet red acrylic point. a color that is somewhat reminiscent of the maroons of the 1940s. an elegant conservative color to showcase the beautiful body. The Grandeur of the car draws the eye. we didn't need Taxi cab yellow or any other bright color to shout "Here I am". The chassis is from TCI with independent rack and pinion front suspension and parallel rear springs. Braking is accomplished with power front discs and rear shoes. It rolls on Budnick wheels with exclusive TrueBillet threaded center nut and cover plate. Automotive power is provided with a 350 ci Chevy tuned port induction engine and a R700-4 four speed automatic transmission. Top speed is probably around 130 mph. The interior color is gray with leather bucket reclining seats. Fabric headliner and side panels with carpeted floors through out the cabin. Air conditioning and a stereo sound system with a ten compact disc changer. provide creature comforts. A blacked out lower dash panel hides the air conditioner vents and the audio controls. This project would not have been possible with out the planning help of Steve Simmons and his outstanding expertise as a body man and painter. Steve is located in Grants Pass. Oregon and is well known in northern California and southern Oregon for his outstanding street rod building ability. This Delivery is an eye catcher. On trips up and down I 5 we get continuous "thumbs up" from other motorists and air horn "toot" from big rig drivers. People notice this vehicle. If you own a business. paint your company's name on the sides to draw attention to your enterprise and write your automotive investment off as a business expense. It is not often that you can enjoy your business advertisement expense. This car has been a wonderful experience for my wife and I. but things change and a reduction in garage space requires that we send this part of our lives down the road to someone else that will appreciate it and enjoy it as we have done.
