Description of 1992 GMC Typhoon |
You are looking at my 1992 Typhoon. It is truck #2298, and has 48k miles. It spent its life from 1992 to 2008 in Florida, 2008 to about 2013 in Michigan (was stored winters) and I have owned it since then. This truck has NEVER had rust. I have pictures of underneath the cladding prior to paint. If you send me a message I can send those if you like, I am maxed out on the available number of pics I can upload. I have the build docs from PAS purchased from Opie a few years ago. Original owners manual included.
Whats been done mechanically recently: being that I bought this to keep it, I did quite a bit. New Bilstein front shocks, ball joints and control arm bushings with alignment. That was over $1,100 professionally done. This thing tracks perfectly, and doesn't have any steering slop like most of these do. Turn signal cancel cam is also new, starter, distributor, coil, plugs, wires, TPS, MAP, knock sensor, fuel filter, change transfer case oil, driver side door hinge.
Engine and Transmission: The engine was supposedly rebuilt at about 40k miles, but I have no paperwork on it. Transmission shifts as a syty should. Turbo was rebuilt by previous owner. Spools up fine. A/C and the problematic ABS have been removed, and the "purple wire" problem has been addressed.
Paint and Cladding: Since the truck was in Florida most of its life, some of which was outside, the paint was shot when I got it. The truck was sanded down, and repainted the same color. There were a few parking lot type of dings, but otherwise had zero dents or major damage. This is a no hit truck. The paint shines nice as expected, and is arrow straight. Many many hours of blocking went into this truck. The cladding was repainted in a satin color, as close of a match as you can get to what the stock cladding would look like if you put a "back to black" type of cleaner on it. It's a bit hard to see in the pictures, but the wheels were refinished also. They are a slightly darker grey than the stock finish. Many of the pieces were repaired/restored by Sportmachines, and was installed with their rivet kit. Also brand new is the correct Typhoon decal set, and window tracks/rubber moldings. Note that the wire on the passenger side above the headlight is for the battery tender.
Interior: interior is nice, leather is in good shape for its age, but the driver seat does show some wear. There is a spot about 2â€x2" where the pallex would need some attention. Dash is cracked and has a cover on it. It is the original dash and still has the factory sticker with vin number in the glove box. Radio is the rare CD player. Console hinge is good, and the console door is not separated.
What it needs: If I kept the truck, I would replace the rear hatch struts, they don't hold well. Passenger side window motor works fine, but it's a touch slow. Oil gauge works, but spun past the needle. Truck will occasionally stall at cold start idle. I had the TPS replaced and adjust ed a few years ago, but started to do it again recently. Its only been driven about 500 miles in the last 4 years or so, so it could use driven a bit more. If you are OCD like me, you would want to adjust the rear bumper out about ¼â€.
If you are looking for a nice collector quality Typhoon this is it. Truck is an my garage and is available for inspection to a serious buyer. I would be happy to coordinate with your shipper/transporter to my best ability. Note that its mid November in Ohio, and I will not drive the truck in the salt. I am only selling the truck to buy the Corvette I wanted since high school. I am not desperate to sell, so please serious inquires only. Truck has clear Ohio title in my name. $500 deposit required within 24 hours of end. |
