Description of 1977 International Harvester Scout |
A 1977 International Scout II is already an interesting treat. But when you see an exceptionally original example that even still has the factory A/C still blowing cold, well then, you know you're looking at something truly special that won't stick around here long.We love International Harvester Scouts a little more than the other convertible 4x4s out there just because you know they represent old school toughness. After all, you had to get them from the same dealer that was selling farm equipment. And this one seems to represent that feeling perfectly. Grenoble Green is a great '70s style earthtone that is both popular for the era and has an industrial attitude. It's so good that we even suspect this is the original paint applied at the Ft. Wayne factory 40 years ago. So while nothing can stay perfect for four decades, the gloss and shine that this one still has is a true testament to its toughness. More than just the paint, you can tell it has been treated with care just by the way the chrome bumpers still have a mirror-like quality, and the side trim remains a complete and unbroken line running down the side. The matching hardtop gives this a great profile that reminds you this Scout is up for any adventure, right down to the factory roof rack. While you can remove the roof for cool open-top cruising, one look at the interior, and you know this one did not spend much of its life open to the world. Rarely do you see door panels, dash, center console, and flooring in such a nice condition after all these years. In fact, the only piece that we can identify as new is the front seat. It's been upgraded to leather, but it still matches nicely with the original vinyl rear seat. And no matter if you choose to keep enclosed coziness or make this Scout a full convertible, you'll fell comfortable thanks to the factory A/C sill pumping out cold air a true rarity for these classic 4x4s.International built their own V8 engine for the Scout, and this one even had over a thousand $$$$ in recent servicing. With 345 cubic inches, there's plenty of torque so it never feels like it's working hard, and the rumble from the dual exhaust is always a favorite. It's mated to a three-speed automatic transmission for easy driving, and the power steering and front disc brakes add to this feeling. This Scout's four-wheel drive system is a stout Dana 20 two-speed transfer case that connects to Dana 44 axles at both ends. So while this might look like a great original vehicle for Sunday cruising, just know that this one also has the right combo for true 4x4 toughness. In fact, Scouts hit that perfect sweet spot where they are not a common sight since so not many are around in this condition, but also there were plenty produced, so you don't have to worry about finding spare components.Complete with owner's manual and maintenance records, you know there are very few Scouts this striking or original left out there. So when you can find one that's priced nicely, and even has A/C comfort, then you know you have to act fast. Call today!!! |
