This 78 International Scout II is a true 'survivor'. It still has the original paint, is much lighter on rust than most Scouts of this vintage, and the factory AM/FM radio still works great! This is a Colorado truck, so the rust that's on it is caused by mud packing in places, not road salt, which you know is good if you've ever worked on a 'rust belt' Scout. The good- all original, not lifted or modified in any way, ever. It has the stock 304 V-8, a New (not rebuilt) Old Stock transmission sourced from a closed down IH dealer with 2,000 miles on it, and a Dana 20 two speed transfer case. The engine runs and sounds great, no ticks or knocks, and it holds good oil pressure (the photos of the dash are with the engine running, you can see the oil pressure). The transmission acts like you would expect a factory new transmission to act, and the transfer case shifts between ranges fine. All gauges work, including fuel gauge. Doors shut solidly without having to lift or slam them, and have minimal surface rust at the door bottoms that would be easily cleaned off and painted. The windshield frame is rust free and solid, front fenders are solid, all glass is good and uncracked and unclouded, and lights work like they're supposed to. Tires have 90% tread on stock rims with stock wheel covers. Underbody is solid considering that it's a Scout; floors are solid and mostly rust free, what rust they have is surface. Floor supports are good and solid, and inner rockers are 85-90% solid. The body mount at the 'step' behind the front seats is very solid and unrusted, as is the back sill mount at the tailgate. It had a new brake master cylinder installed and brakes work fine, but I have not inspected them as to what shape the linings are in. Locking hubs turn freely. Has Bushwhacker fender flares. Now for the bad- the rust that you can see in the photos. Both outer rocker panels need to be replaced, as do both front body mounts and channels (the mounts under the driver's and passenger's feet). The quarter panels have rust and damage as shown. HOWEVER, I am including a new set of outer rocker panels, two body mount wedges and one channel, as well as two used fiberglass rear quarter panels in good shape (pictured). With the parts included, you can fix 90% or more of the rust on the truck. The top has a rusted spot (shown in pics) however it doesn't appear that the bedside of the Scout is rusted other than surface rust. The engine has one head core plug (aka 'freeze plug') that is showing minor leakage, so I'm sure all of them need to be changed. The core plugs in the block were already replaced for the most part. The Scout will be needing an exhaust, it currently has dual exhaust on it (legal on a 1978, they didn't come with catalytic convertors until 1979) but since exhaust is a personal choice (loud or quiet, flowmasters or stock) I'll leave that up to the new owner. This Scout runs and drives and other than the seeping core plug I'd not be afraid to drive it home a reasonable distance.
