Description of 1965 International Harvester Other Custom

Offered at NO RESERVE is my California native, grandpa fresh 1965 International Travelall. If you are in the market for an original unmolested, California black plate International Traveall this 1965 is one to consider. Whether you are cruising to the hardware store, going to weekend coffee or attending a local car show this International Travellall has that cool factor that will capture the attention of everyone!

The Travelall has spent its entire life in sunny California. I recently purchased it from a gentleman in the high desert community of Tehachapi, California. According to him the Travelall was used for those leisurely weekend trips out to the desert or nearby mountains. No tough duty stuff just the occasional weekend adventure.

Prior to that the Travelall was in the California Central Valley farming community of Tulare, California. In 2002, 2003 and 2005 the Travelall participated in the Western International Nationals which were held in Tulare (and still sports the dash badges with honor)! I have no history on the Travelall's life in Tulare nor any history from 2002 back other than it spent its entire life here in California.

I can't pass up an original, well cared for and unmolested rig. This Travelall was no exception! I have enjoyed the International for a short time but with a stable full of other vintage vehicles and an upcoming real estate purchase it is time to let someone else enjoy this wonderful rig. This truly is a one of a kind rig. If you are in the market for a Travelall this is one to consider!

The interior is clean and well sorted. When I purchased the Travelall it still had its original seat cover and the floors were bare. I have since recovered the seat with 1975 Ford Bronco houndstooth inserts and vinyl trim. I put the finishing touches by adding carpet to the rig. It looks very nice! The headliner is in great condition but does need some slight adjustments to dial in the final fit.

As for the body, paint and trim, all are nice driver quality. The doors close nicely, the body lines are straight and there are no dings, bumps or bruises. The Travelall has had at least one repaint. The repaint is older but looks good despite the minor chips and flaws here and there and minor touch-up paint (in at least 5 areas). The passenger's rear door and tailgate were replaced at some time and are a different color on the interior (door is white while tailgate is turquoise). Jambs were done but interior paint was not. The Travelall has had light rust repair in both front floor panels. A very small area on the passenger's side and a slightly larger area on the driver's side. Repairs are solid and sound. I also believe there may have been light rust repair in the roof beltline just above the drip rail as well as behind the drivers rear wheel. I can find no other signs of rust repair in the Travelall including the cowl. Doors all lock but need to be cleaned in order to be unlocked with the key.

Electrical, instrumentation and accessories are all good and in working order, with the exception of the fuel gauge, speedo. and radio (these items are not working). Dome light works as does the power rear window and heater.

Mechanically the IH is very sound. The tourqie inline 6 was rebuilt at some time and is still wsporting the "IronDuke" rebuild tag. The motor runs great and is free of grime, grease and slime! Clutch and manual brakes feel good, transmission shifts fine, transfer case engages and disengages with no problem and the red "Transfer Case Engaged" light is functional. The Travelall is equipped with power steering. A nice addition but it does leak ( a PS ram rebuild kit is included with the rig). Occasionally when cold the Travelall will come out of 4th gear when decelerating. The previous owner believed the issue to be internal to the transmission but after driving it a bit (and having it jump out of gear twice) I believe it to be related to shifter linkage being out of adjustment. Regardless, the Travelall comes with a new clutch and transmission rebuild kit. The Travelall does have a rear main leak and will leave oil on the driveway or shop floor.

As far as drivability, the Travelall drives great and is really a joy to get out on the road. Sporting factory 5" wheels and new Pirelli Scorpion Mudders, snow, ice and mud will be no problem at all for this rig!

Finding a Travelall that has not been beaten into submission or isn't rotted into the ground is getting tough! If you have found this ad you have found just that Travelall!

As for pricing, I just sold a 1967 needing full restoration for $4,000, sold a fully restored 1968 a couple of years ago in the high teens and had a buddy sell one around the same time for over $23,000. Popularity continues to climb as do prices! This International Travelall is being offered at NO RESERVE!!

If you are in search of that ultimate ski rig for those winter adventures to Stowe, Mammoth, Vail or Jackson Hole or just want the perfect surf wagon for those sunny days in Santa Cruz, Santa Monica, Hilton Head or The Hamptons this International Travelall is the ultimate rig for you!
