Description of 1979 International Harvester Scout Midas |
Pretty Much as described above. V8 (I believe it is a 345, though was told by close friend of former owner that it was a 392 that had been swapped in), AT (TF 727), 4x4 (Also was told it was a Dana 300 Transfer Case, though never went to the trouble of confirming that. It was a year earlier than most Scout Dana 300's, but a very well-known and respected IH Mechanic in Taos, NM also told me that it was a 300). What I do know is the 4x4 and T-case work well! Though rusty, I feel it is solid and stable. I'm 250 or so lbs and the floors don't flex when I'm moving around. Both doors have problems opening and staying shut, though passenger side happened after mechanic pulled the lock knob loose, and driver's door did it after sliding into a snow bank. I don't THINK the doors are off from typical Scout II body sag, but I'm sure the age and rust doesn't help on this one! Plow last used 2 or 3 years ago but was working fine then. Has custom rear bumper with mesh-bottomed storage space to hold items (chains, which I think I still have a set of for it, though won't promise this until I dig around). No rear seats included. All info current as of last usages listed. Sold as/is where is, though represented as honestly as I know how. BIGGEST value here is the original Midas componentry and title. Was once offered $1400 for the removable, convertible, original Midas Twin sun-roof, sliding rear windows top, but as rusty as this Scout II Body is, and these tops can be a NIGHTMARE to take off and get back on, so I was afraid to remove it at the time. I have since bought another Traveler top, though never swapped them out. (Thus, I guess I've got a spare Traveler top w/ rear sliders if anyone needs it and I am selling this one!) Top is removable and has the shown twin sun roofs. Two different Scout shops recently told me this is the HOLY GRAIL of Scout Tops and I have seen many a Midas selling WITHOUT the original top (not sure how THAT happens!). Feel free to ask questions. You can also call or text me (906)202-3587 if you are interested in buying this Scout. DO NOT SOLICIT me at this number to sell me something or offer a service! I am out of town currently, but will answer all questions or provide pictures as best as I can. Only selling to lighten my load and free up money for a few other projects. Also will be listing a 1973 Chevy Blazer, 1981 Mack Fire Ladder Truck, 3 1974 Travco 27' Motor Homes, a 1982 Ford E350 Retired Ambulance Van 4X4, a 1967 IH Travelall 4x4 Hi-Top Ambulance, a 1974 Datsun 260Z Project car and a 1996 Bluebird Bus with the HOLY GRAIL Cummins 5.9 P-Pump Engine. Keep an eye on my OTHER LISTINGS!!! I actually MIGHT consider TRADES, as I would like to try the UBER/LYFT gig, so MIGHT entertain trades for a car newer than 2008 in good condition. Will accept pretty much ALL forms of payment, IF real, and I know all the ones that are not. ALL PAYMENT DEADLINES must be met as well. ANY variation from any of these terms needs to be discussed and agreed to BEFORE bidder places bid. Buyer pays any service fees related to form of payment. Buyer responsible for all delivery/pick up dealings and costs. Pick up within 30 days or can be left where stored for $40/month for up to 3 months after that. |
