It sums up luxury touring in a high-performance car that defies comparison. bringing together without compromise the responsiveness and handling of the true sports. with the convenience of a four-door. five-passenger family sedan. In the 3. 8. the renowned Jaguar XK Engine. Four-Wheel Dunlop Disc Brakes. dramatic acceleration and speeds in excess of 120 miles-per-hour are combined with enduring performance. safety and Jaguar’s well known prestige standards in design and fitments. These are reasons in abundance why a noted automotive writer at the time said of the 3. 8 sedan. “It has no exact American counterpart!” The Mark II was an extremely elegant sedan that has been considered the most eye-catching. most compact Jaguar sedan ever. The Mark II featured a larger greenhouse. larger side and rear windows. an updated grille. fitted fog lamps. a wider rear track without the full fender skirts. and standard four-wheel disc brakes. The interior of the Mark II was truly a masterpiece with its beautiful polished walnut veneer dash. soft leather upholstery over foam rubber. and multiple gauges placed in easy distance from the driver along with a row of toggle switches. The cabin space was updated with 18% more cabin glass area. which majorly improved the visibility. Interior appointment on this very car is in excellent driver+ condition. I would give the interior an overall 8. 0 out of 10. The Polished Dash is crack free and a good 9. 5 out of 10. The front seats were rebuilt and recovered with real Connolly Leather within the last five years and are supple and extremely comfortable. The rear seats. carpet and door panels appear to be very original to the car and in very good driver condition. For a 53 year old interior it is remarkable and most notably everything matches nicely. The Mark II had a wide windscreen thanks to new slender front pillars. The rear windows nearly wrapped around to the enlarged side windows with the familiar Jaguar D-shape above the rear door and completely chromed frames for all of the side windows. The larger side. tail and fog lamps found a new home as a the radiator grille was updated. A new heating system was added to the Mark II and ducted to the rear compartment. The window chrome appears all original and in beautiful condition. and we all know there is nothing like the chrome plating from the early sixties (see closeup photo’s). Powering the Mark II was the DOHC aluminum six-cylinder. in 2. 4-liter. 3. 4-liter and 3. 8-liter displacement from the Mark I. The fast and capable Mark II had a top speed of 125 mph and had an estimated 210 horsepower. The saloon came with a 120 bhp. 210 bhp or 220 bhp Jaguar XK engine. The 3. 8 engine is very similar to the unit used in the 3. 8 E-Type and shared the same block. crank. connecting rods and pistons but had a different inlet manifold and carburetor. so it was 30 bhp less. Compared to the straight ports of the E-Type configuration the head of the six-cylinder engine in the Mark II had curved ports. The 3. 4- and 3. 8-liter models were fitted with twin SU HD6 carburetors while the 2. 4 was fitted with twin Solex carburetors. The engine and transmission in our example was completely rebuilt around 100K miles and drives and runs with authority. The transmission is Borg-Warner automatic and shifts smoothy and effortlessly. The Mark II featured independent suspension all around. and most of the models were constructed with wire wheels. Four-wheel disc brakes were standard and the 3. 8-liter was supplied fitted with a limited-slip differential. The Mark II was more than 100 kg heavier than the 2. 4 / 3. 4 models. The brakes in this car were gone through some time ago and are in excellent working order as the car stops straight. true and on a dime. In 1961 Motor Trend Magazine tested a 3. 4-liter Mark II with automatic transmission and found it to have a top speed of 119. 9 mph and the ability to accelerate from 0-60mph in just 11. 9 seconds. The 3. 8-liter car with the 220 bhp was found to have a top speed of 125 mph and could accelerate from 0-60mph in just 8. 5 seconds. The Jaguar Mark II has a history of racing success in the European Touring Car Championship. A total of around 85. 00 of the Jaguar MK II models were produced during its lifespan from 1959 to 1967. making the remaining examples rare. especially rust free examples like the one we have here; a low mileage example that has been loved and maintained it’s whole life in a dry rust free climate. Never Hit Numbers-Matching example Very Nice Interior Restored Paint circa mid 90’s This Jaguar MK 2 is finished in it’s original color British Racing Green and a very nice mostly original green interior. This combination of all green is exceptionally attractive. especially with the elegant chromed Wire Wheels. which are in excellent condition and sporting a brand new set of tires. Unfortunately the extensive records that were maintained by the first two owners were lost in a move. The car was lovingly cared for by both owners and was strictly a weekend cruiser and not a daily driver by the second owner of over 30 years. The mostly original interior is testament to just what an easy life it has had. The body and undercarriage appear to be completely rust free. There is a small bubble area on the top of the passenger front fender near the front light that appears to be solvent pop that has probably been there since the repaint sometime in the mid 90s. I took a picture that is between the close-up picture of the front grille and the first wheel picture toward the end of the body pictures. It is not that noticeable unless very close up and is something that looks static and probably been there for a very long time. If it were my car I would simply leave it alone. the overall condition of the paint is just too nice to try and do a blend at this stage. The Chrome was nice on the car and the second owner elected to keep it all original when it was repainted. As you can see in the pictures the chrome is very good. The bumpers front and rear are exceptional and would rate a 9+ out of 10. The body on this Jag is in simply phenomenal shape. having no signs of ever having been damaged. We do not know the history of the car before the 2nd Owner who bought it in California with the Blue and Gold License Plates that started being used in CA in 1969. These plates were probably issued sometime in the early 70’s by the number and letter configuration. Blue Plates cannot be assigned later in CA. so these plates attest to the fact that this has been a CA car since at least the mid 70’s or earlier. This is completely rust free example and shows no signs of any repair to the chassis or body. It is extremely straight and true with doors. hood and trunk all fitting exactly like they should. You can see the closeup shut lines at each door. trunk and hood to be extremely tight and original as they should be on a virgin bodied car. The frame is completely solid showing zero signs of any type of deterioration as are the floors and trunk. My guess is this car has been in CA it’s entire life. but we have no way to prove it. other than its amazing condition. The paint on this car was done to a high level. in likeness to how it left the factory. On first glance you almost think it is an original paint car. because it is smooth and flat. with no overspray anywhere. as only a Jaguar should be. Is it perfect? No. it is mid 90’s paint with some little marks here and there. I would rate the paint an 8. 5 out of 10. Would I paint this car? Heck no. DRIVE THIS CAR and enjoy it and if you really want perfect paint down the road. this would be the type of car worthy of the process. I have been pulling cars apart for about 25 years for various types of restorations and I can say this is one of the nicest bodied Jags from this era that I have seen. The car drives and sounds wonderful. straight down the road with plenty of power and a smooth shifting transmission. This would be a great car to drive and enjoy and will show well at local and regional venues. I would be proud to show up at any Jaguar event anywhere in this car. Finding good solid driver cars from the West Coast are getting harder and harder to find. So if you are looking for just a wonderful. beautiful driver or an example that wold be fitting for concour restoration. this may just be the car for you. Quite simply. this is the perfect example for the enthusiast or collector looking to purchase one of Jaguar’s sexiest creations.
