Description of 1971 Jeep Other Base |
Like every really cool classic car, this one has its own unique story. This is a 1971 Kaiser Jeep.It is from Argentina and was brought into the country in 2006.My wife drove it around while she was there on a 1-year mission trip.At that time, it was running well and in pristine condition. It has been garage kept since then.Due to sitting around, it has some minor mechanical issues which I have always been meaning to get around to but as most people know, time is the issue that keeps me from it. Now more about the Jeep… It is a 1971 Kaiser Jeep from Argentina. The body shows no rust that I have seen. The interior is in excellent condition. It has a hard top and a soft top.It has the original steering wheel, but it is not installed. It does not have the original mirrors, but I believe they will be not terribly hard to find.It has a Ford 170 cid engine from an old Falcon. It is set up to run on either gasoline or Natural Gas, with Gasoline being the backup. When my wife brought it back into the country, the EPA made her remove the NG tanks and would not allow them into the US so, you can either use it as a Gasoline only vehicle, or you should be able to find a compatible tank to re-install under the vehicle. The choice is yours. English is not its native tongue, so you’ll have to convert everything to SAE from Metric, either by replacing the gauges, or in your head.I have always done the latter.FYI, I am not sure if the mileage (KM-age) is correct.Truthfully, I doubt it.Strangely, all of the bolts are SAE…. Not sure what that’s about. I have put a new battery, starter and solenoid in it, and it will turn over but not start. The fuel pump was in-op, so I got a new pump for the 170, and the arm is too short and does not engage the camshaft, so It will probably either need an old rebuilt fuel pump with the long arm, some customization on the existing part, or need an electric pump. Speaking of electric, all the lights, horn, turn signals and emergency flashers work.It will most likely need the brake system looked at and new fluid installed in both the brake and clutch master cylinder. It has been looked at by a lot of Jeep experts and they all agree that this is an extremely unique vehicle for the US.Speaking of US, it is titled in the US (NC) and has an American VIN, so the exchange should be relatively seamless. This may be an exciting project for you if you either want to go back to original or turn it into a one-of-a-kind mud beast.Good Luck.I am happy to answer any of your questions to the best of my ability. |
