Description of 1991 Jeep Wagoneer

Up for auction is our 1991 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. We bought it approximately 18 months ago with the intention of having adequate time to repair and upgrade items to a level that would allow us to use the Wagoneer as a dependable tow vehicle for a travel trailer. It was purchased with approximately 92,000 miles on it, and now has 99,883 so it has been driven frequently during our ownership.

We searched some time for a rust free, reasonably low mileage example that did not require restoration but rather needed brought back to life after being driven very little. I’ve always thought that “sitting” was the worst thing for a car and that was the case with this one. Dried out gaskets, old crappy gas, sloppy repairs, hoses, belts and hoses that needed replacement etc.

Last spring we were about ready to put her on the road when the virus basically ended most vacation travel, National Parks, restaurants, etc. It looks like that problem is slowly resolving itself so it’s time to get back to work.

During the time we’ve owned it I’ve repaired and rebuilt the Motorcraft 2150 so that it functions properly, replaced fuel filters, vapor canister fluid collector, PCV valve, replaced about 90% of all vacuum hoses to avoid leaks from age-worn hoses. I’ve replaced the alternator with a brand new Delco high output unit, new battery, new ignition control module and distributor pickup, new aluminum water pump and fuel pump. I’ve replaced fuel hoses, fan belts and flushed the radiator. I also took the time to correct the vacuum line routing mistakes that had been made making it much easier to tune the engine.

Oklahoma does not emission test cars but all of the emission system is intact and appears to be functioning with the exception of the smog pump. The smog pump appears to be working but I removed the belt while doing a different repair and didn’t bother replacing it. I have no idea if the car would pass a smog test as it is not an issue here.

Cosmetically I had the spare tire carrier/receiver hitch sand-blasted and powder coated. When I purchased the Wagoneer it had a chromed plastic grill surround on it that looked terrible. I found a NOS all metal Grill Surround, Grill insert and new headlight bezels. They were in new condition and expensive, ($1100.00). The paint has the typical Mopar weak clear coat appearance especially on the roof, but I’ve worked extensively correcting, polishing and glazing it to improve the appearance.

At the moment all instruments, windows (side & tailgate) work properly as well as the power door locks but being a Wagoneer these items are subject to the whims of the car’s personality.

The interior is as good as the photos indicate, the leather and cloth are both in great shape and have been cleaned and treated. The carpet is good with the exception of the very rear of the luggage area which shows some wear (seen in one of the photos). The headliner is excellent. I’ve also replaced the worn out radio speakers with JBL unit

We originally thought that the #5,000 lb towing capacity of the Wagoneer would be what we needed but after shopping for a travel trailer recently it appears that we will need something that can tow in the 6-7500 lb range so sadly the Wagoneer has to go.

eBay only allows 24 photos with a listing but I will be glad to furnish additional photos of specific items if it would be helpful.

In addition to a cash deal I would be interested in working a swap plus my cash for a low-mileage, late model full sized SUV such as a Tahoe, Yukon, Toyota Sequoia, Expedition etc. so that’s an alternative. I won't accept a lowball offer but am interested in moving on so make a realistic offer and own a nice Wagoneer.

Now to the business details. You are not bidding or offering for the right of refusal. Your offer or bid is to purchase the car. My description and opinions of the car may or may not agree with yours, I strongly suggest that you inspect the car personally or have it professionally inspected. I will do everything possible to work with you making arrangements BEFORE you bid. If you chose to buy the car without inspection (sight unseen) that’s your choice and you live with it.

The buyer is responsible for delivery or transport but I will do my best to work with you or your transporter.

Under no circumstances will the car leave my possession until total funds are received and verified.
