Description of 1978 Jeep Other

1978 Jeep CJ5 39000 miles with 258 6-cylinder and T-18 4-speed transmission power steering and tilt wheel

It has an excellent Bestop soft top and doors that are in almost perfect condition.

I purchased this Jeep from the original owner 13 years ago and he represented the mileage to be the actual mileage.

When the original T-150 3-speed transmission failed I installed a rebuilt T-18 heavy duty 4-speed. At that time a new clutch u-joints etc. were installed. The bill on the transmission change-over was over $2000.00. This is by far the most desirable reliable transmission for a Jeep and transmission problems should never be a problem again.

When I first bought this Jeep it was upgraded to Electronic Ignition.

Within the last year the following work has been done to include: carburetor rebuilt new battery battery cables solenoid starter alternator master cylinder fuel filter new gas tank and sending unit and new front fenders.

I have mainly used the Jeep to plow the snow in my driveway since I have owned it.

This has never been a professional plow vehicle I have only used it for our driveway.

I have put less than 1000 miles on it since I have owned it.

The Jeep had been repainted once when I bought it.

It had some of the normal rust in the floors under the seats and in the foot wells but they had been repaired when I bought it.

There was some rust in the rear frame rails over the rear axle that was repaired by boxing the rear frame with ¼ inch plate steel. Again structurally it is probably stronger than it was when it left the factory. Cosmetically this repair is not very noticeable unless you are looking.

In the 13 years that I have owned it there has been none of the rust that has been repaired has returned.

The floors and underside have been sealed with truck bed liner as a preservation measure not to hide anything.

Most of the paint under the hood and inside the tub including the dashnot perfect but too good to repaint.

The seats shown in the photos are the original factory seats that came with the Jeep when it was new. Only the seat cushion of the driver’s seat has been reupholstered.

This is a 37 year old vehicle. It is not perfect but is very well preserved for its age.

If you are looking for a low mileage well maintained reliable Jeep with a known history this is the one for you.
