Description of 1971 Land Rover Other |
Up for sale is a 1971 Classic Land Rover 109 (109" Wheelbase) Safari Station Wagon. This"Landie" is theclassically British and manly Land Roverthat generationshave come to love and admire. Specification include:2.6 Litre Petrol Engine.4x4with transfer case2.35/1.15ENV front and rear axlesManual 4-speed gearbox (all synchromesh) with VERY rare and desirable OverDrive The chassis & frame was unique to the model and featured drop-shackle suspension similar to the military series Land Rovers. 900x16 tyres were a standard feature and these machines were commonly used by utility companies and breakdown/recovery firms. Only 170 IIA and 238 Series IIIs (1 Ton) were built for the home market. Export markets had even fewer examples, aking this one of the rarest types of Land-Rover ever built. What makesthe particular Landie so unique is that its original owner was the Britishmilitary where it served from 1971 until being de-commissioned due to 5 year age limit in 1976. It waspromptly purchased by an Officer for his own use and since immigrated to the USAlegally as a 1 car exemption for servicemen. Overall, he green paint has lots of character and patina and give the truck a unique finish that only comes from years of use; this finish would be difficult to replicate. The body and chassis are free of rust and the interior has beenupgraded with quite comfortable and stylish later model Defender seats. Mechanically, the truck is perfect and starts right up with no problem or issues. Its ready to travel the Outback (or to Outback Steakhouse ?) and no terrain will even be a mild change. By the way, ualfuel tanks so its ready for looong journeys. Full Service History from new written in British Military Service booklets. Also certifiedvia British Motor Industry Heritage Trust I'm selling this vehicle for my brother so I'm no expert.
