Description of 1989 Land Rover Defender |
This is about as rare, f not MORE rare, han hens teeth..... read along. The Land Rover Defender 110 Turbo Diesel was never officially imported into the U.S. but has had an enormous following in Europe and the rest of the world for their ability to go nearly anywhere. The "110" nomenclature comes from the vehicles 110" wheel base. Left hand drive versions are exceedingly rare and extraordinarily desirable. They were equipped with a 4 cylinder Turbo Diesel which in its original guise was rather suspect in relationship to reliability...more on this in a bit. This 110 was Originally sold in Italy. It hails from the Republic of San Marion (a small and extraordinarily wealthy principality located just off the Adriatic sea) It still sports its original R.S.M. sticker. It was imported with just 21,000 original Kilometers or roughly 13,050 miles. The 110 now has approximately 25,000 kilometers or 15,500 miles !!!!! IT MUST BE SEEN TO BE BELIEVED as this 110 is simply as good as they get !!!! There are most probably non better in the U.S. The vehicle comes with all of its Original Italian and Import documentation as well as shop manuals (in Italian of course but, adly, ot who may have owned it first, oyalty perhaps?) In addition (here is where the original engine story comes into play) the Original and notoriously unreliable 19J engine has just been replaced with a freshly rebuilt and far more robust 200TDI ordered from the Netherlands and installed within the last 600 Kilometers. The original 19J starting leaking and after calculating repair cost on a historically unreliable motor, 200TDI motor was sourced out of the Netherlands. This engine is inter-cooled and the original reliability issues of the 19J corrected. These motors are said to be good for well over 300,000 miles of driving with just good routine maintenance. The Land Rover starts instantly and is now far better to drive while delivering even better performance and amazing economy. I've driven the truck over the last 4 days, ere there and everywhere and have used less than a 1/4 tank of fuel ! The paint and interior on this 110 are simply as new ! It is the only way to describe the condition of this LR...."as new". There is NO rust anywhere. The chassis is perfectly clean as well. A new set of alloy wheels and tires were recently installed and the original wheels saved. The original door steps have been saved and are also included in the sale. A fantastic Stereo system has been installed by a "magician" who was able to hide everything from view and not cut a single unwanted hole anywhere...turn it up as loud as you like, t will not distort and it is I-pod compatible. Drive it to the top of a mountain and fill the valley with tunes....a little Mozart perhaps :) A picnic basket of Cheese, rosciutto and nice bottle Chianti Classico.... I recently saw another offered for sale that had been "restored" for $70,000. I am not sure what "restored" means. Was there significant rust, any, any miles of use??? Here is a perfect example of a very desirable Land Rover 110 that has NEVER been apart, bused or molested. It is in absolutely original condition and simply stunning ! Properly Imported, itled, icensed and insured. Will consider an air cooled Porsche 911 (or two) up to model year 1998 as partial trade, ut it will have to be a "great" car. No tiptronics!
