Description of 1961 Land Rover Series II 88" |
I have owned this Landy for about 12 years and have had a lot of fun with it. Over time I have made some improvements, here's the run down: This is a California car, originally sold here in the US, not a recent import. As a result, the chassis is completely rust free and original. Since I've owned it, it has only been driven in the warm months and always parked inside. This thing has always started, regardless of time since last used. For a 57 year old British car, that's saying something. It is a Series II, they were built from 1958-61, the shortest run of any model Series truck. I have put on Rocky Mountain parabolic springs and shocks. It has a rebuilt transfer case. It has aluminum rocky Mountain door tops included (not shown, and one window pane is broken). Tires are near-new, it does not smoke, knock or make any bad noises. Brakes and steers well. The 4wd system works perfectly. It does leak oil as per British tradition. The truck includes a hard to find pickup cab top. I have partially refurbished it and it will need completing, but it's overall nice and not a whole lot to do to finish it. It does have all the parts, including the filler piece behind the seats. I had a canvas full top for it, but it was stolen along with the trailer it was in, Grrrrr! You can easily acquire a new one and hoops if desired. I have a number of spares that go with the truck, including a brand new British wire harness exactly as original. Cosmetically, I have left the truck as I got it because I like it just as it is. I love the vintage stickers, I don't mind that someone painted the galvanized parts, I think it makes it more fun. I have owned a lot of vintage cars, and I find that the perfect ones don't get driven, the ones that are nice but not perfect get enjoyed. This fits that bill to a T. You'll get a lot of attention in this. Super fun to drive with the windshield down and people just talk to you from the sidewalk. I am selling because my interests have taken a turn in a different direction and I am thinning my collection significantly. I always thought that this one would be the last to go, but my heart has changed on that. I am sad to see it go, but it's time for someone else to enjoy this gem. Please ask questions before the auction ends, I am happy to tell you all I know. I am more than willing to assist in shipping the truck and unless you live nearby, shipping is the choice, these are not fast cars. Thank you for taking a look. |
