Telephone: +1 415 935 3850 | info@theMotoringEnthusiast. com 1992 Land Rover Range Rover Classic LSE Exterior Color: Brooklands Green Interior Color: Standstone Leather Engine: 3. 9 liter V8 Transmission: 4-speed automatic Mileage: 148. 30 miles 1992 Range Rover LSE VIN SALHV1246NA618699 Brooklands Green with Sandstone Leather Interior About the Range Rover Classic SWB County LSE This is a short wheelbase Range Rover and is a limited edition “LSE” produced in 1992 only. LSEs. in addition to the fairly comprehensive equipment specified to the County. came with special upholstery and wood. 5 spoke wheels (later standard on 1993 LWBs) and a 9-channel a/d/s/ stereo with external subwoofer. door-mounted tweeters. and 6-disc CD changer. The upholstery is lightstone leather with taupe piping (LSE stands for Light Stone Edition). and the wood is American walnut. rather than burled walnut. LSEs were available in two exterior colors only: Brooklands Green and Cornish Cream. In the last 12 years. I have seen three other LSEs in person (two in white and one in green). and only a handful on Ebay. 400 examples were built in all and it is not to be confused with the Vogue LSE (which is basically the US County LWB with 4. 2 liter engine. EAS. and 108 inch wheelbase). This particular example is very attractive in this very traditional English color combination. Being a fairly late (in terms of the Range Rover Classic’s 25-year production run) example. this car is extremely well-equipped in terms of convenience. and in terms of mechanical refinements. It has coil springs (rather than the spiffy but troublesome air suspension). sway bars. electronically fuel-injected 3. 9 liter V-8. ABS. and a host of convenience features as well. The Range Rover really needs no introduction in terms of its blend of luxury and extreme off-road capability. It is the original. especially in this Classic iteration. About this car This Range Rover was sold new in 20 July 1992 at Cole European in Walnut Creek. California to a gentleman living in Lafayette. California. My mother bought this Rover on 26 November 1994 at RAB Motors in San Rafael (the Land Rover dealer at the time) with 42. 18 miles. She paid $39. 61. 96. less $3600 trade in value on our burgundy metallic 1986 Jeep Cherokee (with searingly fast 2. 5 liter 4-cylinder engine and 5-speed manual transmission). She is a doctor and paid in cash because she always buys her cars in cash. It was her daily driver until October 1998 and has been used occasionally since. It was well maintained and she is enthusiastic about cars and has owned a Defender 90. two E-Type roadsters. four Fiat 124 spiders. a W116 280SE (which we imported from Switzerland). two Porsche 911s (including a 1989 Speedster she bought in 1990 which she still has). and four Jaguar XJs. My brother and I grew up in this thing basically and it has always been in Northern California. It was maintained at Cole European. then RAB. and then at Land Rover specialist mechanics since. including Britalia Limited and Besa Auto Care. The service booklet is stamped up to 60k miles. and there are service records from 1994 to present. It has been very well-maintained and I have all service records since 1994. I also have the original manual pack (manual. stereo supplement. service booklet. “Tread Lightly!” brochure. etc. and the leather pouch that they all live in). Maintenance history There are a ton of service records. which date back to 1994. It hasn’t been used much in the last 4 years so I had had a comprehensive service done in March of 2015. which included a new fuel pump. fuel pump relay. battery. and full fluid service (oil. filter. brake fluid. coolant) at a cost of $1742. 30. It passed California smog on 21 March 2015 and was very clean. with below average readings in several categories. In terms of mileage. plenty of work was done recently. including new power steering hoses. new front right brake caliper. new starter. new brake pads. new ignition coil. steering box. new Panhard rod and bushings. ignition components. new Michelin tires at 132k miles. and of course regular oil changes: Mechanically. the car is excellent overall. It starts easily. runs well. stops. corners. and brakes as it should. Extras: My mom had a number of extras fitted when she bought it. including rubber over mats. load liner. running boards. and ancient cellular telephone that is long defunct. Condition Outside: The body in general is in fine shape. It is generally straight and solid and having been in California since new. the car is free of rust. All of the usual places are entirely solid and clean. The upper and lower tailgates are free of rust. The body does have some dents in it. The worst of these is in the bottom of the front passenger’s door and is about 8 inches long and 1. 5 inches tall. There are also a few dents on the driver’s side cowl in front of the windscreen. and a few on the roof. The paint is generally good. though is somewhat faded/oxidized on the hood and roof. It polishes up fine. but doing so reduces the paint thickness. The black paint on the window frames and a pillar are showing some fading. There are the usual stone chips on the hood and a few chips about the car. but really nothing major. There is one spot one the roof where some bird crap was left on for what must have been a long time. and it has etched the paint there. There is one chip in the windscreen that is less than a centimeter long. It has not spread in the 14 years that it’s been there (Since winter of 01-02) and the heating elements in the windscreen still work properly. One of the foglights has been recently replaced and has 3M protective film and the other is fairly old and has typical wear on it and a hole. One front turn signal has a hairline crack. and the left rear brake lense also has some cracking. The chrome on the bumpers is excellent. Inside: The interior is in very good condition. The driver’s seat has some creasing and wear to the left bolsters only. but the balance of the leather throughout the rest of the interior is quite good and remains supple. There is one spot where the piping has come apart on the driver’s seat that is the size of a pencil eraser. The color is very attractive and is set off well by the darker piping. The wood has surface cracking throughout. although the ski slope. center section. and shift knob were refinished about 15 years ago and are very nice. The remainder of the interior parts like the door panels. dash top. console box etc. are very nice. The carpets and the conventional floormats are very good condition. The rubber and upholstered mats both bear “Range Rover” script. The door panels and dashboard are all in excellent shape. The loadspace is in good shape as well. since it has been protected by the liner. At the dealer. however. they used some sort of black putty to keep the liner in place. and it stained the tan carpet. I don’t think the spare has ever been used. The loadspace cover is slightly bowed in the middle from putting stuff on top of it. and the plastic piece that orients it on the dowels is broken. It still works perfectly fine. The headliner is sagging at the rear. The engine is somewhat dirty. It’s intact and stock. but hasn’t been cleaned in a good long while. Issues Cruise control is inop HVAC: AC is probably no longer cold. but haven’t verified. Central locking: works fine from the passenger’s door but no longer from the driver’s door. There’s a fairly large dent in resonator. which has been there as long as I’ve owned the car. The rear muffler has some holes in it and should be replaced. It is surprisingly not very loud despite these holes. The rear mudflaps have fallen off ABS light is on; I believe it’s a sticking brake light switch because I’ve noticed that the brake lights sometimes stick on (they will come off if you pull up on the pedal with your toe) and the last time the ABS light came on. the fault code was for the brake light switch. In all. this is a great example of the quintessential original Range Rover. It is a very honest example with two California owners. and is very complete with books and a ton of paperwork. It is unmodified and very well-preserved. and in a rare top spec color combination/limited editon. It is an absolutely unmolested and 100% honest example with nothing to hide. It has never had any accidents or bodywork while we have owned it and have never found evidence that it ever had any. It is probable that the paint is 100% original. While it’s not exactly a collector car. there is definitely increasing interest and rabid enthusiasm for these Classics and I think it’s pretty cool that my mom bought it before it was cool to have an SUV. She’s cool like that. That’s all I can think of for the moment. but I’m sure I’ve forgotten something. Feel free to ask any questions you have. though you are much more likely to annoy me if you ask something that I’ve included in here. Terms and Conditions: No warrantee. Please be the high bidder only if you actually intend to pay. Happy to help facilitate shipping. I encourage you to come see and drive the car in person if at all possible. You are bidding for a commitment to purchase the car. not an option. so please have all your hemming. hawing. spousal negotiations. financial negotiations. spiritual negotiations. and whatever other negotiations you will need to complete already completed! Also. if you’d like to have the car inspected. that is a possibility. though it would obviously be necessary to have that completed before the end of the auction. Telephone: +1 415 935 3850 | info@theMotoringEnthusiast. com On Mar-23-15 at 12:10:30 PDT. seller added the following information:California buyers note: this Rover is on PNO (planned non operation). hence the old registration sticker. but just passed smog easily on Saturday 21 March 2015. There should not be any back fees due. but if there are. we will cover them. The pictures were taken Sunday 22 March 2015. |
