Description of 1965 Lincoln Continental Sedan |
1965 Lincoln Continental sedan Suicide doors. Unrestored. Original black color. Original red interior. 39,200 miles showing, but total mileage unknown. Georgia title in hand. Car is located in Athens, GA. VIN 5Y82N424282. Excellent candidate for restoration and/or modification. I’ve owned the car for six years. I’m selling only because I don’t have time for it anymore. Also, it takes up a lot of space. Walkaround video:https://youtu.be/FF8SGS4lGqA Startup video:https://youtu.be/YdjtxedXZRg THE GOOD======================Mechanically, the car is in really good condition. It has been a reliable around-town driver for me. I’ve never taken it on long trips, but for short rides it’s been great. I estimate that I’ve driven it less than 500 miles in the past six years. The car is original and unrestored. Many parts have been replaced, but to my knowledge, everything is stock. Starts well. Idles like a clock and revs smoothly. The engine is well tuned and the carburetor looks recently replaced with a stock four-barrel unit. See video link above. Suspension is nice and floaty and feels exactly like a Lincoln should. Power steering is tight and responsive. You can steer this 5,000 pound beast around the parking lot with two fingers. Transmission shifts nicely. Stops well. Brakes bite strongly and feel confident. The front calipers and hoses appear recently replaced (see photo). Relatively new exhaust from the manifolds back on both sides. Deep throaty exhaust note. I think all of the lights work: turn signals, low and high beams, brake lights, reverse lights, interior lights. Things I have done: -All fluids and filters changed.-All four tires are brand new and have less than 50 miles on them. GT Radial Maxtour all season 225/75R15.-New fuel pump.-New spark plug wires.-New steering coupler (rag joint).-New ignition switch and key.-New glove box interior. Included in the sale but not installed is a full carpet set in original red color with installation instructions (see photo). Originally $625 from Leather Restorations Inc. Also included but not installed: new trunk seal, rear quarter “Continental” script emblem, red-plastic rear brake light housing (see photo of these). The air cleaner housing is included - I removed it to take pictures of the engine. I have many maintenance records and purchase receipts (see photo). THE BAD======================I have tried to document most or all of the following in the pictures, but here is a list of known issues: The paint has many chips and scratches. The front seat upholstery is torn. The headliner is intact but the stitching on two of the seams has come apart and it is falling open (see photo). The carpet is tired and torn (new full carpet set included in sale). There is a hole in the driver’s side floor pan (see photo). This does NOT extend to the frame rail. This hole must be old because currently water does NOT collect in the car when it rains. This can be easily patched by any body shop, then install the new carpet set that is included in the sale! (Again, I’m selling because I don’t have time for the car.) After this hole, the worst rust that I know of is on the driver side rear door at the bottom (see photo). The speedometer is nonfunctional. I never cared because I only drive it slow. The odometer is nonfunctional. Reads 39,200 miles, but total mileage is unknown. In my six years of ownership, I’ve driven only short trips, definitely less than 500 miles total. The window switches do not work. ALL of the windows worked when I purchased the car, so I’m confident that the problem is the switches, which is a common issue on these Continentals. The windshield wipers work but need new inserts. The trunk lid has many rust spots on its underside, which is a common issue with these cars. The trunk is missing its normal latch mechanism. You currently open it by inserting a finger through the latch hole and pulling on a spring. It’s a janky fix but you get good at it quickly. The trunk is VERY spacious and solid but has no carpet or spare tire. The passenger side front turn signal chrome and plastic housing is broken (see picture). So is the driver’s side rear brake light housing (see picture, a new red plastic housing is included in the sale). There are small spots of black overspray here and there, so some of the panels have been repainted. I don’t see any problems with the unibody frame and I see no evidence of a major collision. There is no AC compressor, but all of the AC tubing appears intact. I don’t know if the heater works because I live in Georgia and this has been a fair-weather driver for me. The ashtray door hangs open because its spring is missing. No one has smoked in the car under my ownership and there is NO smoke odor inside. There is no radio antenna. I never cared because the engine sounds really badass. Despite being well tuned, the car gets terrible mileage. I guess low teens MPG. It has a huge four-barrel carburetor and 430 ci (7.0 liter) engine. But it makes 300+ HP and has tons of torque. Like many old cars, if you let it sit for a while, the carb will dry out and you’ll have to crank it while the mechanical fuel pump re-fills the carb (a quick blast of starter fluid works well). Filling up with pure gas helps remedy this. TRANSACTION DETAILS======================Please ask me questions before bidding! 434-603-1698 or through eBay. No international sales.
