Description of 1962 Lincoln Continental |
1962 Lincoln ContinentalOriginal Suicide DoorRivera-TurquoiseCalifornia time capsuleFactory AirOriginal Turquoise Metallic-Mette Leather sold new Oct 1961 Palo Alto Californiain storage for decadesdifficult to duplicate This 1962 Lincoln Continental sedan in Rivera Turquoise with matching Turquoise leather was built on October 28th, 1961 and first sold 57 years ago by Ken Lowell Lincoln Mercury in Palo Alto California Palo Alto the home of Stanford University today serves as the central focal point of the Silicon Valley and is home to many prominent technology companies it is a small town where homes have sold for as much as 40 million dollars. Palo Alto has changed a great deal but this was an expensive car in an expensive area even back then This is a true California car from new acquired 41 years ago (1978) by present owners' family and was added to a large private collection of classic cars. This vehicle still wares has its original Black and Yellow plates mandatory issued in 1963. This car has not been registered for the road since 1979 and has been stored upstairs in a giant building in the East Bay for over 4 decades this is a true California time capsule. This is an original Elwood Engle designed classic with its suicide doors powered by the 300 horsepower 430 ci MEL V8 paired with the three speed Twin-Range Turbo Drive automatic transmission. 1962 is often thought of as a high-water mark for the classic Engle design bringing Lincoln back from the terrible losses on 1959 and 1960 Lincolns. The new design in 61 was refined in 1962 and like other cars got less attractive as they age. 1962 is a desirable year and an original California time capsule car would be difficult to duplicate. For 1962 Rivera Turquoise if you think about a high-water mark in terms of colors that age well the interior has the optional leather interior finished in matching Turquoise Leather. This is all original and is a true time capsule which is still in great shape. Look at the pictures we have tried to show all the positives and all the negatives. I am not sure all the windows go up and down or the optional power seats go back in forth. It does have the very rare optional Factory Air-Conditioning system which was a very rare option on any car in 1962. It was still new idea like air bags in 1984. The base price for a basic Continental no air with cloth interior in 1962 started at $6,072 for a base car this example was a loaded up well-equipped model in a very desirable color combination sold in an affluent area. In many area in 1962 for what this car first sold for. The interior is all original leather is in outstanding original condition not perfect but pretty close. The fact that it is in the condition it is in and be all original is not at all easy to duplicate. The air conditioning system looks to be all complete I cannot guarantee you it will blow cold and I am sure it does not. The car has been in dry storage in a vault like building built in 1915 which in itself hard to duplicate. This one is in very nice condition a true time capsule sealed away for over 4 decades. The car was acquired in 1978 last time registered was 1979 and 1978 stickers are still on the car. The exterior looks to have had some paint work which would have had been done sometime in the 1970s the original Rivera Turquoise over Turquoise Leather is stunning. The car is beautiful it has a few dings and dents most likely sustained while in storage over the 41 years. nothing is perfect. The fact that a 4929 pound car that is 205 inches long, 76" wide,. and has a 123" wb in a desirable color in storage for over 4 decades is amazing in itself The data plate tells us: 53A is a 4 door sedan Color D= Riviera Turquoise Trim 87= Metallic-Finish Leather in Turquoise Date built :28K = 28thday of October Axle 1 = 3.001 Trans 4= Dual Range automatic This 62 Lincoln has a certain presence about it that captures the focus of any soul in sight. The Riviera Turquoise is a beautiful color that not only look fabulosu on this car but represents the early sixties well. The paint is in great shape, and while Riviera Turquoise is the original color this car was respray decades ago when Gearald Ford was president. The body of this Lincoln is in good shape. There are no areas of rust or rot. There are a few dings here and there the most noticeableon the drivers door. The chrome bumpers and trim is original and in good shape, shines nicely with no large areas of pitting. All the glass is originaland in good condition. The original 14 inch wheels were replaced in the 70's with 15 inch wheels from a 66 Lincoln. Cosmetically this is a real nice example of a 1962 Lincoln. Step inside this luxury cruiser and your nostrils will fill up with the aroma of original 57 year old genuine leather. The seats are in fantastic shape for their age. The color is still very much vibrant with no large holes. There is some wear but for 57 years old it looks great. The door panels are in great shape, the wood has held up great and the polished switchesare shiny and free of pitting. The dash is also in fantastic shape. There are no cracks, the wood again is in great shape. All the polished gauges and instruments look like they did 57 years ago and appear to all be functional. The A/C does not work as well. The headliner matches the rest of the interior and looks flawless with no sagging or no holes. Mechanically this Lincoln is a runner. The 430 starts up and runs strong. The car was sitting for 40 years so the gas tank had been gone through as well as a new carburetorand fuel pump were installed and the car runs good. It is common on these Lincolns to have exhaust leaks with the original exhaust system. This car does have a leak giving the car an aggressive sounding rumble. The tires do hold air but are decades old and should not be driven on long distances.
