Description of 1973 Maserati Coupe Merak |
You are looking at a Classic 1973 Maserati Merak that has been fully restored. This car needs very little except for some small details to bring it to tip top condition. If you are looking for a car that can simply be tweaked to perfection. this is it. Mechanically it runs great. The air conditioning has been recently replaced. When the engine is started it produces a low guttural earth shaking rumble that makes it hard not to want to give it full throttle and speed out of the driveway. The brake system is the Citroen hydraulic system that has worked flawlessly for years. The main accumulator has recently been replaced and the brakes are extremely responsive. The steering is tight and has just been serviced as well. The odometer is still in original Kilometers. not miles. so this car actually has only 25. 74 original miles. It was originally purchased in Italy. It is a European edition with the classic chrome bumpers; not the rubber bumpers put on the US models. All the parts in this car are original or genuine Maserati parts. Here is the story of the car. Our family is technically the 2rd owner of this car. My father purchased the car in Milano Italy in 1979. We still have the original license plates from Italy. At that time we lived in the Netherlands. The car turned heads every time we drove down the street. My father did not register it in Holland because he knew we were going to move to the UK. We stayed in the UK for a year and then eventually imported to the United States in 1981. He kept it in his garage in Oakland. California until 1991. when he shipped it to me in Florida. From 2002-2008 it was restored with new paint. nbsp;all the leather replaced on the dash. the seats. and door panels. All the components were removed from the car so that the whole body could be repainted without obstruction. The engine was meticulously rebuilt simply to make it run better. not because of any mechanical issues. The whole engine is original with new rings. bearings etc. The air conditioning works and blows cold. New stereo and speakers installed in 2012. Car comes with some spare parts and the original owners manual with engine specifications and many details necessary to tune and maintain car. Also comes with a detailed parts book to assist in finding original equipment parts. It does not have any of the smog emission equipment that hurts the performance. Because it is a 1973. it is exempt in most states. You may have seen the previous listing for this car advertised as a 1975 Maserati. However. I recently looked over the documentation and noticed that the year it was originally registered in Italy did not match the year on the Florida title. It is titled in Florida as a 1975. It was titled incorrectly in the UK where my father first registered it. I emailed Maserati directly to find out the year and the historian reported back to me that it was delivered to Rome in June 1973 and it is in fact a 1973 model. Florida will change the title with a letter from Maserati confirming the year. but I figured the new owner should probably correct that when registering. I have all the contact information for Maserati to get this. The defects of this car are as follows. There are two small dents: 1. on passenger side on front fender 2. on passenger side rear fender. There is some damage to the under-panel that is purely cosmetic as shown in the pictures. but only noticeable if you are under the car. There are some electrical cosmetic issues that need to be fixed. but they are minor and easy and inexpensive to fix. The gas gauge is not functioning properly. Some cosmetic trim could be replaced. There is some rust on the under panel and some small areas of rust that have reappeared since the restoration. Some lights simply need to be reconnected. There are still minor oil drips. but that is simply Italian. I have many more photos if you would like more. Please feel free to contact me with questions or requests. |
