As is stated above, this is a NO RESERVE auction for a 1991 Mazda Miata. These are great little cars that have a great reputation. They are fun to drive, handle well, are reliable, cheap to run and cheap to maintain. Not many cars will give you more smiles per mile than a Miata. Don’t miss out on a great summer driver, pick this one up and start enjoying the top-down weather now! This little Miata is not perfect, but it is in decent condition for the age. It appears to be the 1991 Special Edition Miata that came in British Racing Green with a tan interior and factory CD player. There is a plate on the center console that lists this car as number 1064 of 4000, and has the original owner’s name on it. It is probably a rare example, since most Miatas do not have the automatic transmission. The 1.6L engine runs well, has plenty of power, and does not smoke, over-heat, or have blow-by. The auto transmission shifts up and down through all of its gears normally without any problems. The suspension feels solid. The brakes work OK, but are going to need some attention. It feels like the front left brake is sticking, and the emergency brake is sticking slightly too. The fix may be a simple matter of cleaning and greasing the sliders and emergency brake mechanisms, or it may be that some of the calipers need to be replaced. Even if it’s more than just some grease though, the parts are cheap and are all carried by any local Pepboys, Napa, Autozone, etc., or you can get them even cheaper from RockAuto.com (front calipers for $29 a piece). The car is an absolute pleasure to drive. I’ve popped the top down and cruised the back roads to and from work a few times, but it also handles the highways with ease. The tan interior is in decent shape for the age. The carpets and door panels are clean and look good. The tan leather seats do have a few small splits, but are still comfortable and supportive. There are no cracks on the dash or center console, though the dash has lots of little scratches. There is a driver airbag. The heater pumps out great heat. There is A/C but it is blowing outside temperature air. All of the dash lights and gauges work. The cruise control, radio, and power windows work. The “check engine” light occasionally comes on and then goes off on its own, but I have not noticed any problems with the way the engine is running when it does come on. The green exterior paint looks OK, but there are some definite imperfections. The body and undercarriage are solid. The paint looks like it could be original or could be an older, very good re-spray. The glass is all good. The tan top is faded but not torn and the plastic rear window is intact. I have not driven the car in the rain, so have not been able to assess for leaks, but it did not leak after I washed the car with a high pressure sprayer the other day. The factory alloy wheels could use a good cleaning, but the tires all have good tread. There is a large dent on the driver’s side fender, and a small dent on the passenger’s side fender. These fenders are easy to unbolt and replace with donors from a junkyard or cheap “Certifit” panels. The driver’s door catches slightly on the dented fender and it has scraped the front edge of the door. This door may have also been replaced at some point. The paint has peeled a bit on the front and rear bumpers, and there is some hail damage on the trunk. One headlight bulb is out, but the rest of the lights all work. Wipers work fine. This would make a great daily or summer driver for someone. It is absolutely wonderful to drive, and especially with the top down on these warm, sunny days. I would say that this Miata is in overall average condition for the age and mileage. It is not in showroom condition, it is not a perfect example, it has some obvious faults and will need some TLC, but it is still a nice car.
