Description of 1979 Mazda RX-7

Here is my 1979 Mazda RX7 GS. This car was made inMarch 1978 and I took delivery NEW from Johnson County Imports, Mission Kansas in July 1978. This is the top model at the time, GS, and came with several items over the standard S model. Most notably a 5 speed manual and a rear sway bar. This one has the factory optional alloy wheels. It does not have a sunroof ('79s leaked anyway) and I never added AC. This car has seen snow only once in its life and that was a BIG surprise New Years Eve1979. It has spent its entire life in the K.C. area with trips to Road Atlanta (twice), MAR, HMRC, Sunflower Aerodrome,Heartland Park Topeka, Mid-Ohio (Family notthe Race Track), Central Kansas, and Central Nebraska so its not all city driven. I'll say 99% of its miles have been with me behind the wheel. As earlier stated the clutch was never finished, probableover 90% done, but it has been in hibernation for 20 some years, locked in a garage under a cover. It ran good when parked but was smoking a little,

Here is more on its condition starting from the front.

The photos show a fiberglass air dam. I purchased this Mazda accessory from JoCo and make a good mold before it ever went on the car. The mold is over the garage and will go with the car. More on extra "stuff" later. The front bumper is damaged, see photo #23, but there is a new Genuine Mazda bumper painted in the box visible in the interior photos.

The photos show nice tweed seat covers, with a reason. The seats are original black vinyl with black and white plaid cloth inserts. The white threads used were weak as I've seen others that the white part "went away" with age. Look at photo #13 and you can see where I made storage behind the seats. I'll pat myself on the back as I did this before Mazda made a storage compartmentstandard in later models. The left door card vinyl split so I replaced it with a Mazda part from a later year for the added map pocket. Old one in basement.

The right rear quarter was hit by a kid on a bicycle, see photo #6. A Chevy pickup hit my Left rear quarter near the fuel door. This was fixed by JoCo Mazda. The rear end was hit pushing me into the car in front, hence the 2 front bumpers mentioned earlier. The rear bumper was replace but NO body sheet metal was touched. The radio antenna was bent causing its removal and replacement with a manual retractable antenna.

The undercarriage looks fine, I see no rust. The interior looks very good. I cleaned out most of my junk I had left in the car and so no evidence of rodents.

I mentioned earlier the air dam mold, also over my garage are a NOS Genuine rear muffler and 2 pipes in front of it. How about extra wheel, 11 in fact. steel an d 5 original factory alloy from 1979-1980. These have no tyres. There is also 1 1979-80 factory ally in the basement with what I think is an original tyre. There is also matching alloy with an original tyre as the spare in the car. There is also a tub of assorted parts, both new and used, in my basement. There is also a simple, but nice, fitter car cover on the car that too came from JoCo Mazda.

As stated the Mazda has sat for 20 some years so it's not running and work will be needed. At least fuel, cooling, and braking systems, but the body and interior are in wonderful condition. Many years ago I put new Yokohama 205/60-13 tyres on the car hoping that would motivate me to get it back on the road again, see photo #24.

This RX7 is available for local viewing.

I went to make some additions and spelling corrections but ebay wouldn't lry me so here they are as follows. I skipped over the reason the car was put into hibernation. At approz. 105000 miles I finally wore out the clutch and put it in another garage to work on. I was almost done and had som medical issues hence it got ignored. . March 1978 is the first month of production for RX7s., this one being #1673. All the paint is original, Sunrise Red code RH, except for the left rear behind and below the fuel door, done by my local Mazda dealer, and the rear bumper. There are also some books, including the original manual.
