I PICKED THIS UP TODAY AND WAS TOLD IT WAS A ONE OWNER CAR AND DRIVEN FREQUENTLY BY AN ELDERLY MAN UNTIL HE PASSED IT HAS SET FOR AT LEAST A DECADE NEGLECTED UNTIL I PURCHASED IT.
THE CAR ALTHOUGH HADN'T BEEN TOUCHED IN YEARS STARTED RIGHT UP TODAY WHEN I PULLED IT USING MY TRUCK AS A JUMP START AS I HAVE NO KEYS FOR THIS VEHICLE. IT NEEDS TO HAVE THE OLD GAS DRAINED, ND FILTER CHANGED. BUT AT LEAST YOU KNOW THE ENGINE IS NOT SEIZED, ND YOU CAN MOVE THE CAR WHILE YOU RESTORE IT.
I CAN PUT AN IGNITION,AND BATTERY IN IT AT THE BUYERS EXPENSE.
THE BAD I SAW UPON MY INSPECTION
VISUAL
SURFACE RUST AND PITTING ON BUMPERS AND CHROME GRILL MOST WOULD POLISH OFF WITH A WHEEL
PAINT APPEARS TO BE ORIGINAL BUT OBVIOUSLY THIS CAR NEEDS TO BE RESTORED
THE QUARTERS, OORS, RUNK, OOD, RUNK LID, LL LOOK SOLD. LINED UP PERFECTLY, LL CLOSE AND OPEN FLAWLESSLY. THEY LATCH EFFORTLESSLY. THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR DOES HAVE MUD, ND SURFACE NOT DEEP, R HOLES BUT LIGHT MUDDY LIKE SURFACE RUST. NOT A SERIOUS CANCER THAT I SAW. THE FLOORS AND TRUNK PANS NEED PATCHED/REPLACED BUT OVERALL ITS PRETTY SOLID. I DO HAVE THE BACK BUMPER.
THE ENGINE LOOKED FAIRLY CLEAN, ND AS I SAID BLEW MY MIND AT HOW FAST IT TURNED OVER, OW QUIET AND HOW SMOOTH IT RAN WITH OLD GAS, N IT, OU JUST CAN'T BEAT A DIESEL ENGINE.
THE TRANSMISSION
I AM UNSURE OF, E SAID IT WORKED LIKE A TOP AND AT ONE POINT WAS A REGISTERED DRIVING CAR WHEN HIS GRANDFATHER HAD IT, OWEVER I DID NOT MOVE THE CAR, R ATTEMPT TO DRIVE. I DIDN'T WANT TO RUN IT LONG OR PUT ANY STRESS ON IT. ITS A 4 SPEED MANUAL WITH A CLUTCH AND THE SHIFT ON THE COLUMN,
TIRES
OLD, RY ROTTED ONLY 3 HOLDING AIR, HE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE IS GOES COMPLETELY FLAT IN MINUTES.I CAN AIR IT UP AND GET IT LOADED TO WHO EVER BUYS IT OR REPLACE IT WITH A NEW ONE AT BUYERS COST.
BRAKES
THE PEDAL WAS SOFT AND THE BRAKES ARE WORKING,
WINDOWS
THE GLASS LOOKED GOOD.
INTERIOR
THE INTERIOR, EADLINER, ARPETS, EAT ALL NEED TO BE REPLACED, R FIXED DEPENDING ON YOUR PLANS FOR THE VEHICLE, UT EVERYTHING IS THERE.
ALL IN ALL THIS IS A GREAT CAR FOR RESTORATION OR EVEN WITH JUST A LITTLE WORK A FUN DAILY DRIVER.
WE GOT NOTHING BUT BEEPS, OOKS, UESTIONS, ND SMILES ON THE TWO HOUR DRIVE. THE PICTURES I HAVE ON THIS LISTING ARE THE CAR JUST BEING PULLED OUT AND LOADED AT THE PLACE I BOUGHT IT TODAY. THE CAR WAS NOT CLEANED AND THEY WERE TAKEN WITH MY CELL PHONE.

TheMercedes-Benz W120was aninline-fourcylinder sedan introduced byMercedes-Benzin 1953. Powered initially by the company's existing 1.8 literM136engine, t was sold as the model180through 1962.

TheMercedes-Benz W121was introduced in 1956, owered by a 1.9 literM121engine. It sold as the model190through 1961.

The 180 continued to use the 56PS (41kW; 55hp) M136 engine from theMercedes-Benz 170 Sbuntil 1957, hen it received a downtuned version of the 190's M121.

Various diesel powered 180s were produced from 1953 to 1962.

Often referred to as "Pontons" the pair were the mainstay of Mercedes' lineup during their production runs. Together with the more luxurious and somewhat larger 2.2 literinline-sixcylinderMercedes-Benz W128220 they constituted 80% of Mercedes-Benz' production between 1953 and 1959.[2]

History[edit]The 180-190 andW128/W180220-220S 'Ponton' models looked very similar in appearance from the windscreen back to the six-cylinder somewhat longer 220s-220S-220SE models. From behind, ne could not easily differentiate even the top of the line 220SE (E for Einspritzung, r fuel injection) from a 180, ut the longer bonnet (and wheelbase) and chrome touches identified it as an upscale, ix-cylinder model.

TheMercedes-Benz 300W186Adenauercompany flaghsip used a much larger frame and body, nd was an entirely different car.

The 180-190 four-cylinders were widely used as German taxis. Only these shorter Pontons featured low-wattage parking clearance lights at front bumper top rear. A simple left-right toggle above and to the left of the driver's knee selected which side would illuminate, o as not to needlessly run down the battery in winter, o small concern when restarting diesels. Heater air intakes were on both sides of the radiator grille only on the 120/121.

The form and body of the car changed little during its production run. However, n 1957, year after the introduction of the 190 saloon, he Mercedes star atop the faux external radiator cap was made spring-loaded to give when bumped: reports at the time indicated that this was either to pander to the requirements of certain export markets, otablySwitzerland, r to reduce the risk of pedestrian injury in the event of an accident.[3]By 1959, he star was spring-retained on a ball base.

A related roadster variant, heR121, etter known as the190SL, as produced from 1955 to 1963.

At the 1959Frankfurt Motor Show, n time for the 1960 US model year, slightly wider grille and slimmer taillights were introduced.[4]The same wider grille was carried forward to the car's in other respects more flamboyantly styled successors, hen the Pontons were replaced by theW110 "Fintail"models during 1961.
