Description of 1989 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class |
1989 Mercedes Benz 560SL VIN WDBBA48D8KA100279 I believe this to be one of the very best examples of a Mercedes Benz 560SL in the world. When I bought the car in January 2007 and had it delivered to Virginia. I was amazed to find that the original Michelin tires were still on the car! They were of course not reliable. and I mounted a new set of Bridgestone Pontenzas but have kept the original tires for potential use with the car as a show car in the future. This would be an ideal car for a collector who is a Mercedes Benz enthusiast willing to show the car at club events. The mileage in early 2007 was 15. 25 miles. I took the car to one of the most respected auto body shops in Charlottesville and asked the 75 year old shop owner to evaluate the paint & body. He said it was the "nicest example of a 560SL that he had ever seen. " He did a careful inspection of the car and signed a document attesting to the condition that I have in my records. The Benz was sold by Contemporary Motorcars in Little Silver. NJ. on June 24. 1989. to a local resident. I have evidence of the 1000 mile and 7500 mile services being completed at the selling dealer. This first owner traded the car back to the dealer in 1991 with recorded mileage of 8661. It was quickly sold to the second owner at a price of $60. 44. The second owner was a "snow bird" and moved the car to his winter home in Naples. FL. where it remained until 2006. I was told by the daughter of the owner that he owned two 560SLs: a black one and this white one. He tended to drive the black one more and the white one therefore had very little use and the resultant low mileage. This owner sold the car to a family member in 2006 who lived in SC. The family member only kept the car for a few months and sold it to Auto Werks Sales & Leasing of Tulsa. OK. probably through an Ebay auction. The dealer serviced and inspected the car and subsequently relisted it on Ebay where I purchased it. I have all the details of the prior owners with related documentation. It is one of numerous cars in my collection and I've decided to sell it to simplify my life and reduce distractions. The condition of this car can only be described as exceptional. as the photos will attest. It sports the original brown convertible top that is in flawless condition as well the hard top (with window defroster) that is also in exceptional condition. The interior is leather and appears almost new. If you take a close look at many 560SL photos you will note "wavy" patterns on the door panels which I believe reflects exposure to sunlight. Note the straight. original condition of the panels on this car. I had the car serviced at the local MB (Browns) dealer on June 21. 2007. I obtained a mechanical evaluation of the car which basically only suggested a complete service of fluids which I accomplished to include the transmission. cooling system. power steering. oil & filter. and brake fluid at a cost of $931. I personally replaced the hood insulation pad which had deteriorated and a few other small items. but this car is practically 100% original. I did have the air conditioner serviced at 16. 37 miles on April 25. 2011. and had a new Denso compressor installed. I also had brake fluid flushed and replaced along with a few other minor items at a cost of $1603. There has been an annual comprehensive state inspection as well. Recently. the Benz reached age 25 which qualifies for "vintage" status in Virginia and I had the car retitled accordingly (no annual license fee & no annual state inspection requirement!) I've maintained the car in a climate controlled garage and driven it sparingly over the seven plus years of ownership. I find the body style a classic design and love the combination soft top/hard top system. The original tools are included. along with a form fit flannel lined car cover. I am a 68 year old former fighter pilot and take meticulous care of my automobiles. I welcome your questions & inquiries.
