Description of 1983 Mercedes-Benz 300-Series

1983 Mercedes-Benz 300D Well maintained and ready to drive 145. 68 miles Please scroll down to view all photos and the complete description! This lovely Mercedes Benz is a two owner car which has undergone a significant amount of maintenance and repairs over the last three years. Starting its life here in northern New Jersey. the car remained with its original owners until early 2012 when I purchased it. It has always been garaged. as evident by the outstanding condition of its interior and original paint. I performed a significant number of repairs since acquiring the car with the goal of keeping its originality. while restoring its function and performance to the high standard these cars are capable of. All repairs were done with genuine Mercedes Benz parts when possible. No low cost aftermarket parts have been installed on this car. The car is now in outstanding mechanical condition. The engine starts easily. runs smoothly. and has excellent power and throttle response. The transmission shifts firmly without any flaring or slipping. The suspension is very tight with no clunks. knocking or vibrations. Brakes are outstanding. the the car stops smoothly and straight. On the interior. all the dashboard lights work properly. including the dimmer in the instrument cluster. All instruments work. including the tachometer. clock. odometer. and fuel reserve light. The climate control works as it should. requiring no adjustment in settings for most weather conditions. Air conditioning also works well. as does the cruise control. The Becker radio sounds great and is paired with the original Hirschmann power antenna. still working well. Original paint shines nicely. Sorry. the 5BANGER plates are not included with the car! The only significant body work this car has had in its lifetime is the front left fender. The original had a dent which I didn't feel right about having repaired. So I had a new Mercedes-Benz fender professionally installed. painted to match and undercoated. The quality of the work is outstanding. The rest of the body is straight and shows no sign of any accident damage. As to be expected with a car this age. there are a few dings. scratches. and chips. But all minor imperfections consistent with the age and mileage. All the glass is original. Sunroof works well. even in cold weather. These Vredestein Hi-Trac tires are an outstanding match for these cars. and come in the original 195/70R14 size. All the jackpoints are original and solid. Rocker panels are original and rust free. And the floors are original and solid as well. The original pinstripe was restored by Clay White. the original artist who striped this and so many other of these cars locally when they were new. The trunk is clean and does not have any water leaks. The original tools are still in the plastic bag. with the original spare and jack. The interior is really outstanding. The seats are very firm and supportive. The horsehair pads are original and soft. not dry and crunchy! The steering wheel and pedals have little or no visible wear. The floor mats. believe it or not. are original to the car as well. They still have their original MB part number sticker on the back. and are labled "Made in West Germany". All instruments work properly. The mileage shown here may increase during the course of the auction. The wood in this car is original and very very nice. All power windows work properly. The Becker radio is ready for your favorite cassette tape! The black MB Tex interior shows no wear. The dashboard has no cracks. The rear hat shelf. like the rest of the interior. shows no fading from the sun. The back seat is as nice as the fronts. All door panels are very nice. with the plastic map pockets intact. The vacuum door locks work well and hold their vacuum for weeks. The engine is honest and not detailed. New Mercedes Benz battery installed last winter. Original manuals and many receipts come with the car. I believe that original is the only way a car should be maintained. and enjoy making outstanding cars out of nice ones. This car has been my occasional daily driver since purchase. Its for sale to make room for some new cars and projects. There are several of these 300Ds on eBay. Many are heavily deatiled for sale with little or no attention given to the mechanics of the car. Many others are driven nearly to their death without proper maintenance. I pride myself on the quality of my mechanical work. This car has had many of the common problems and weak points corrected and sorted out. making it a rare find and tremendous value for the next owner. With that said. please understand that while very nice. this is certainly not a perfect car. Its 30 years old. things will break. and the car will need repairs at some point.
