Description of 1961 Mercedes-Benz 200-Series |
If you have been looking for a REALLY SOLID Heckflosse to use as a good driver, with an eye towards future restoration as values climb- THIS IS YOUR CAR! This lovely 220SB has had THOUSANDS of dollars invested to make her a good driver. The motor starts right up, does not smoke or leak and pulls really hard. Carb was rebuilt recently. Transmission was rebuilt at some point int he past, and sports a newer clutch, throwout bearing and pressure plate. The finicky bushings in the column shift 4 speed manual were replaced very recently and this is the BEST shifting 220Sb I've ever been in! This is a really nice driving car! The suspension was completely rebuilt with four new shocks- the car rides like a dream! The Kuhlmeister A/C was completely rebuilt, and works great! The Becker radio was sent to becker in New Jersey- was rebuilt and works great- Heck even the power antenna WORKS! The interior of this car is in decent condition- The headliner is original and stained but not collapsing. The seats are leather and appear to be later replacements- they look pretty good with no cracks or splits. Door panels are leather and show some staining, but look good. Carpet was replaced recently and is excellent. Where this car really distances itself from the others is the underside- The car is just rust free! NO perforations anywhere- The trunk floor, passenger floors and rails are clean and rust free. Even the weakness of this model- The front crossmember is rust free! The body is similarly pretty good- I would call the overall cosmetic condition of this car "fair". The two tone color scheme is so nice- two tone hubcaps really set it off. The black paint is an older job, has held up well, but is starting to dull and shows some evidence of partial resprays. I see one or two TINY bubbles at the bottom of one door and on the edge of one Fender- so given the condition of the rest of the car I think rust is not an issue here. I think you probably could add a little paint where needed and buff this car out to a much nicer shine- but a good quality respray would make it look like a new car! The brightwork on this car, always tough to find is ALL THERE- nothing is missing, but most of it is fairly oxidized and really could use to be replated, rechromed or polished. That said- I drive her all the time and get nothing but horn honks and thumbs up- and as you can see in the photos once you get a few feet back she looks great! In the last few months she's received a good tuneup and brake service with fresh DOT3 fluid, so she is ready to roll. While she could use a cosmetic freshening- this is an EPIC stately vehicle that really deserves a good home. I am selling her at no reserve! If you buy this car with an eye towards a full restoration or even a good cosmetic freshening- I have a pair of Germany- sourced OEM in the MB box rear tail lights that I can sell you at a good price- so please contact me after winning if these are of interest to you. This is a NO RESERVE auction- So I will sell to the highest bidder! With restored versions of these incredible cars starting to top $50,000... this represents a tremendous opportunity to grab a nice driving, nice looking car with NO bad rust issues to enjoy now, and restore later! YES- This car is ALSO for sale locally- so I reserve the right to end the auction if a suitable local offer is made. |
