Description of 1955 Mercedes-Benz Other

Restored Mini-Mog.Collectible 1955 Mercedes Benz Unimog 401 (1953-1955), this is not the common 404 German or French gas powered military import. This is a very early piece of history, designed by aircraft engineers after WWII to harvest crops and take them to market, hence the draw bar and front and rear PTO. Mercedes took over production of the Unimog in 1951 from the Boehringer Tool Co., which began production in 1948. Early Unimogs are the Holy Grail. The bull decal on the hood is the Boehringer logo. It’s a show stopper in parades, shows, camping, etc. It doesn’t go anywhere without a crowd. It is also the more rare froschauge (frog eye) cab.Mercedes OM636 diesel (Google it), portal axles with mechanical lockers, 2 super low gears for forward and reverse, then additional four gears, forward.Several modern upgrades including modern safety glass, seats, shocks, sound proofing, quick start glow plugs, lights. Titled in WY. I have had it licensed. Have you seen another, this nice? Owner is not a dealer or broker. Please call, text or email with questions before you bid. You have plenty of time,10 days. Please allow me a reasonable amount of time to return your inquiries. I am not a full-time eBay seller. This Unimog is a hobby that I have spent thousands of hours and dollars to get it into this condition, but it is not perfect. 307-413-6085.

This is re-listed because of a non-paying buyer. Please re-read the description. Please do your Unimog research. Please arrange all financing before bidding. Please get permission from your significant other before bidding. If you are not sure about anything, please ask before bidding. Unimogs were designed for utility, not speed. Unimog – UNIversal MOtor Gerat (device or tool)

Included in the sale is a cab cover for storage and protection when transporting, Shop Manual, OM636 Manual, Parts Manual, shorter bed sides that are easy to take on and off, and extra parts.

I am selling because??? I guess the fun was the challenge of the restoration, 3-4 years, always looking for parts or thinking about how to fix the next thing. Now I take it out once or twice a year to keep it going. And it might be time for another project, expedition camper on medium duty crew cab 4x4??

Please don’t bid if you don’t understand what a Unimog is. If you want a fast modern off-road vehicle, buy a Jeep Rubicon or side by side, like everyone else has.

Consider bidding if you want a collectible like no one else has, that you can impress yourself and friends by driving onto your trailer without using the loading ramps, or if you want to get stopped by everyone because theywant to know“what is that thing”. Or if you want to be able to go about anywhere camping, hunting, or fishing. Or to car shows, parked in your driveway, powering implements with the front and rear PTO, pulling a hay wagon or manure spreader, pulling trees out of the way, checking your mailbox, or going to the Post Office or store in your rural area, depending on your DMV regulations.

Shipping
Buyer is responsible for shipping costs. I can store the Unimog for a reasonable amount of time while you arrange shipping.

Pleasearrange all financing before bidding. Get permission from your significant other before bidding. If you are not sure about anything, please ask before bidding. All non-paying buyers will be reported to eBay.

On Jul-05-20 at 12:25:35 PDT, seller added the following information:

I have added of photo taken after reassembling all components to the frame including transmission, engine and axles. It was running and driving at this point. Every piece was wire brushed, cleaned and repainted (moving parts) or sandblasted and repainted before reassembly, (non-moving parts such as frame). I went thru the axles and portals, changing gears, bearings, races and seals as necessary, replaced transmission with surplus 404 transmission, (same) as bearings were laying in bottom of original, engine rebuild with head resurfaced, new valves/seats, ridge ream and machine hone engine with new rings, clean block, re-bush rods, polish crank, rods, mains, (work description from receipt). Engine shop does everything from old tractor motors to monster truck race engines. Just looked at folders of receipts, thousands or dollars. Wheels were not powder coated with new tires yet. I put the running gear in storage and then started on the bed and cab.
If you know the value of the old Unimogs, (mini-mogs) don't get outbid.
