Description of 1940 Mercury Other |
Offered for Sale by the California Automobile Museum 1940 Mercury Eight 4-Door Convertible Flathead V8 We Offer Financing Please inquire before bidding Exterior Four door convertibles are quite uncommon to see. Car presents well with Washington blue paint and light gray top. Paint is an older respray and years of use is shown in the various scuffs and chips in the paint. The majority of chips have been touched up rather well. There are waves in the body, ore on the passenger side towards the rear than drivers. There are some spots of rust, ostly confined to the fenders, ne small pinhole found at the bottom of the drivers door. Interior Older reupholstered interior is in good shape, eats show wear but no tears found. Door panels show similar age and use. Some rust found at the bottom of the doors, he trunk is in good shape but tool area does show light and is thin in places. Floors appear to have been sealed with a rust-stop agent. Mechanical 12v converted flathead V8 starts easily and runs very well. I had the opportunity to drive this car to the museum from the owner’s house. It was a very pleasant hour-long drive with no surprises from the engine, teering or brakes. Transmission can crunch a little going into third but a quick double clutch solves it. At the time of the 12v conversion, n alternator was installed inside a generator type housing to disguise it. All the original 6v parts are included with the car. Clock and fuel gauge are unfortunately not working. As the car stands, t would make a great driver and with all of the original parts, ould make an excellent candidate for a restoration. |
