Seemingly overshadowed by the big three, hese car were true classic American muscle car, hat gave any of those others all they could handle on or off the track! The Cougar was a sales success from its introduction and helped the Lincoln-Mercury Division’s 1967 sales figures substantially. The Cougar was Motor Trend magazine’s Car of the Year for 1967. The introduction of the Cougar finally gave Mercury its own “pony car” Slotted between the Ford Mustang and the Ford Thunderbird, he Cougar was the performance icon and eventually the icon for the Mercury name for several decades. The Cougar was available in two models (base and XR-7) and only came in one body style (a two-door hardtop, o center or B-pillar). Engine choices ranged from the 200 hp 289 cu in two-barrel V8 to the 335 hp 390 cu in four-barrel V8. A performance package called the GT was available on both the base and XR-7 Cougars. This included the 390 cu in V8, s well as a performance handling package and other performance enhancements. The GT package, ncluded Ford’s 390 cu in FE-series big block, long with an upgraded suspension to handle the extra weight of the big engine and give better handling, ore powerful brakes, etter tires, nd a low-restriction exhaust system. Finished in Cardinal red (code T), he paint job shows minor imperfections and bubbling visible upon inspection. Front and rear bumper have a good fit, nd finish that shows well. All trim pieces are present and have a brilliant finish with little hazing and or dents that we could see. The weather stripping is still very pliable with very little shrinkage or drying. The headlights and taillights are in very condition with no hazing or cracks and operate as designed. The original equipment wheels showed very little marring and curb rash. Inside, he rich black vinyl seats (code 1A) all look great with some signs of wear visible. Excellent matching carpet throughout the interior. Overall the genuine interior looks great, owever there is some normal wear sports typical for a vehicle of this age. The door panels and dashboard are matched perfectly with the exterior of the car and look fantastic. The headliner mirrors the rest of the cabin and completes the theme. The original steering wheel and optional center console are in great condition. The original equipment Philco AM radio operates as designed. This nicely represented Mercury is equipped with the 335hp 390cid V8 engine, -6 3-speed automatic transmission, ower steering, ower assisted brakes(front disc and rear drum), heater, riginal tools and 14 inch OEM steel wheels with matching full cougar center caps. Mercury has a long standing presence in motorsports. These Cougar GTs have long been a rare desirable collectable for its forward thinking Euro influenced design and performance! GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!
