This is a rare and stunning 1969 Cougar XR-7 convertible equipped with the R-code 428 Cobra Jet engine and C6 automatic transmission, one of only 96 to ever come that way. The XR-7 Package is a very desirable option that adds interior touches such as leather upholstery, map pockets, burled-walnut instrument-panel appliqus, courtesy lights, passenger side clock, visual check panel, "super-puff" door panels with pull handles and full instrumentation, including tachometer. This Cougar is painted Wimbledon White, however; unlike most other XR-7s this car is not equipped with a 351 motor, this Cougar is originally optioned with the R-code 428 Cobra Jet engine featuring 335HP and 440 ft/lbs of torque as well as a functional hood scoop. The car also comes with the black stripe and locking pins along with the Competition Handling Package a 9-inch rear end with 3.25 limited-slip differential. This is a very nicely optioned car from factory with saddle interior, air conditioning, power windows, power steering, power front disc brakes, power top and Cougar styled steel wheels. Other options that come with the XR-7 package include: 15-inch wheels, rear stabilizer bar, Flight Bench seat, "XR-7" trunk key-hole door, "COUGAR" decklid script, large hood ornament (with cat emblem), and sport-styled roofline with back-half vinyl and rear opera side windows and louvers. Features: Wishing to remain competitive and sell more cars the Lincoln Mercury division of Ford Motor Company came up with a slogan for 1969 to push a sportier image. This advertising strategy was coined the "Streep Scene", meaning the combination of "street and strip". This theme was to join the 1969 Mercury model line up through the USA auto show circuit that year. With its Mustang under pinnings the cougar led the performance portfolio, and with certain options selected it could be a terror on the street or strip. Mercury was still a more upmarket car catering to a different clientele than the Mustang ever would. Keeping this ideal but injecting performance resulted the offering of the 428 Cobra Jet engine as well as the XR-7 luxury equipment package. When combined with a Convertible body style mercury was able to offer a grand touring, luxurious convertible in the tradition of the world's best GT convertibles. Full of style and presence, loaded with luxuries, the 1969 Mercury Cougar XR-7 with 428 CJ Ram Air led the way for those looking for a more refined muscle car experience.
