Description of 1972 Mercury Cougar XR-7

This Cougar was built May 3, 1972 in Dearborn, MI. It was sold by Evans Motor Sales of Southgate, MI, which is still in business. It came with a 351-2V Cleveland V-8 and FMX automatic transmission. The rear end ratio is 2.75.

Since I acquired the car I have installed a PerTronix Ignitor Solid State Ignition system, an Edelbrock intake and Summit 4 barrel carb. New coil spring perches in front and new lower control arms. A front end alignment was done at that time. A new front bumper. A Con2R custom steering wheel. New carpet, new door panels and recovered the front bucket seats in the original XR-7 pattern. Torq Thrust II polished wheels with red line tires. The worn ¾ vinyl top was removed and that portion painted silver. New battery. New dual exhaust system. It comes with new upper door weather stripping, not installed.

The previous owner had the engine rebuilt in August 2010. He also did; radiator hoses, V-belt, oilpressure sending unit, rear brake shoes and wheel cylinders, new rotors and calipers front, fuel tank sending unit, plugs and wires, temperature switch, new radiator, center link bushing kit, upper ball joint, tie rod, power steering return and pressure hose, steering box and coupler, idler arm and pitman arm and window felt weatherstripping. I don'tknow about the transmission, but it shifts good. He had the front end aligned in October 2011 and the odometer was showing 14,317 miles at that time. Theodometer now is showing 20,645. I presume it's been around once.

This was originally a factory air car, but of course someone removed the compressor and brackets. It comes with a complete set of factory shop manuals, original owners manual, a Deluxe Marti report and a copy of the original invoice.

It is not a 100 point show car and is priced accordingly. Both doors are showing rust bubbles in the lower front corners. There are also rust bubbles on the passenger side quarter panel low on the panel, between the door and the wheel opening. These are clearly seen in the photos. There is also an area above the left rear wheel opening where the paint is dull. This is shown in a photo. All the gauges work, although the temp gauge seems erratic. The wipers work. It has power brakes and steering. Front brakes are disc. It has an AM/FM radio with cd player. It works, but Iseldom use it. I had just installed a new turn signal switch which failed just as I was driving unto the fairgrounds at the NSRA Street Rod Nationals. The car is now in the shop to have the switch either repaired or replaced.

I have a clear Kentucky title in my name. This is a 45 year old car and is sold without any warranty expressed or implied. No foreign sales.
