Description of 1962 Mercury Comet |
This amazing 56 year old 1962 Ford Mercury Comet Special 4 door hardtop sedan has been restored while preserving its original patina'd condition. It boasts a freshly rebuilt mustang motor, all original upholstery in great condition, new carpet, new headliner, new rubber, new windshield, new shocks, and new tires, and a bit less than 38,500 miles on the odometer. I purchased the Mercury as a "barn find" from northern CA and had it shipped to San Diego. I loved the original paint and patina and the originality of the interior. The seating and door panels and dash are in really cool original condition...the interior is like a time capsule. The exterior paint is also original and all chrome is intact along with original badges, it bears surface rust which adds to the character...it does not detract. It has all original bumps, nicks and bruises, but the character is amazing. The motor was completely rebuilt to 200cid V6, along with new front end suspension, new shocks all around, control arms, tie rods, Idler arm, Pitman arm, and bushings. It has new pistons, rings, and bearings, cam lifters, timing set, and a complete valve job. The carb, water pump, and alternator, and regulator are new. New starter battery, heater core, fuel sending unit, new leaf springs, bushings and 5 lug wheels with brand new tires. I changed out the original 2 speed transmission to a 3 speed with new linkage, and drive line. I converted to Disc Brakes with fresh rear brakes and brake cylinders, door locks and Ignition cylinder. The horn is new, along with new speakers and antenna for the original radio also in working condition. The odometer shows 38,500 miles, but I have no way of knowing if these are original miles or not...a bit of a moot issue with the fresh motor swap...There is no rustanywhere on the vehicle with the exception of the patina'dsurface rust on the exterior paint, as shown the underside and body are rust free. I am a hobby-type vintage car collector and am paring down the collection. This is a rare find in this original condition. Let me know if you are interested, and come take a test drive. It is a cool slice of CA history. This turns heads wherever it goes! Would make a great beach ride. You can visualize putting your surfboard on the cool vintage Aloha Surf Racks? Current registration, Clean Title in hand. The vehicle is stored in my warehouse and I will work with an out of area buyer on logistics of transport as well as storage while arranging transport at no extra charge. Additionally I strongly suggest out of area prospective buyers arrange for a vehicle inspection, which I am also happy to assist in coordinating. $9,500.00 or best offer A reliable runner!
