1966 MGB Last Year with NO Factory Emissions and with the Desirable Metal Dash VIN: GHN3L107780 Remember how much you cared for your first real girlfriend back in junior high? When I was in the ninth grade. mine had the coolest Dad in the whole world! He worked as a regional British Leyland rep here in western Washington and they had an MGB much like this car. He even let me drive it around the block several times alone – something my father wouldn’t EVER let a 14 year-old get away with! Over the years I’ve owned many vintage British Coupes and roadsters. Truly. this is one of the nicest to come my way in a long. long time. We recently acquired it directly from a small-town owner here in Washington State If you’re in the market for a well-kept. vintage British roadster. possibly even a spring/summer/fall daily driver please give this very sharp MG your kind attention. In the spring of 1967 it sold here in Seattle and has been in our snow and roadsalt-free region ever since. Though it’s always been registered as a 1967 vehicle. it is in fact a 1966 model year car. Back in the 60’s our state titled MGBs based on the date they were sold new. not by manufacturer serial number. My research has uncovered this is one of the final 200 built in the 1966 production run. I take great pride in the vehicles we post here on Ebay and feel that you should know as much about them as possible. Accordingly. here is a list of the good and also small things possibly needing attention: The immediate past owner was a retired gentleman that enjoyed the car greatly. Beginning in December of last year he spent over $4. 00 replacing and upgrading many engine. suspension and brake components. (I have a file of receipts for all work performed that will be passed along to the next caretaker). Here’s a brief list. all done within the last 300 miles: A new electronic distributor with Pertronix ignition. starter & solenoid. water pump. thermostat. brake master cylinder. brake lines. heater & radiator hoses. exhaust manifold gasket and transmission mounts. The differential and transmission oil was changed. The suspension was basically rebuilt with four new shock absorbers. the steering rack. kingpins/control arm bushings. rebound straps. trunion & fulcrum pin kits and new tie rod ends. He had the radiator removed. cleaned and serviced. The system was flushed and filled with fresh coolant. Both SU carburetors also came off and were rebuilt. All four wire wheels were powder coated. After acquiring the car this past summer we upgraded further with the following: A new steel fuel tank. sending unit and electric fuel pump. new factory-correct British seat upholstery. fresh paint (keeping to the original red color) and full replacement of the trunk floor. Our body shop manager found no other body rust to remove prior to paint. The original floor pans are exceptional. Climb over. under and throughout and I know you’ll come up smiling! All the factory glass is fine with no chips or cracks. The original exterior chrome and trim is good. Though you can’t see it in the trunk photo because of the carpet kit. the spare is in very good condition as well. Our mechanic replaced the sparkplugs. checked the timing and changed the oil before we put the car away in our warehouse a few weeks ago When cold. pull out the manual choke and with virtually one turn of the key the peppy 1800cc five main-bearing four fires right up with just a few pumps of the gas pedal. This was the last year the MGB did NOT have any power-robbing pollution controls! The four speed manual transmission shifts smoothly. just like it should. with NO clutch slippage. I’m quite impressed with the condition of the dash gauges. They’re still clear and bright as the day this rig left the Abingdon-on-Thames plant back in August. 1966 heading for the Seattle District Sales area. The only things I’ve found that could still be sorted are a nonworking heater fan. intermittent tach & water temp. gauges and an upgrade to the cheap old radio. The MG will arrive with the nice fiberglass hardtop pictured. I’ll also be sure to include the worn. but still very serviceable soft top and hard-to-find removable metal bows good for summer driving. Stashed away in the trunk. I’ll also include the factory boot cover (for use when the top’s folded down). a new rubber trunk seal and a windscreen-to-cowl gasket that can be installed later.
