Description of 1972 MG MGB GT

Priced to sell!
OK MGB GT fans, here's your chance to own a well sorted GT that fits right into that hard to find sweet spot between rusty or patched up project car and concours winner. This is a wonderful A+ driver quality B that has been well preserved, mechanically kept up with and with a rust-free western car lineage.
The ownership history that I learned upon buying the car is that the first owner (California) owned the car until 1987. The second owner (California) owned the car from 1987-2012. The third owner (Arizona) had the car until 2015 before it was sold to a collector in Boston. I purchased the car this past spring to add to my 14 car collection. I was a little over zealous in my acquisitions this year and need to thin the herd of a few that are getting less attention than the others.
One of the major selling points of this GT is the Overdrive transmission. Only 20% of MGB's were sold with factory overdrive and the first time you get them on the highway you'll appreciate the advantage. This one works flawlessly and engages smoothly and is engaged by a stalk on the side of the steering wheel.
Over the years the car seems to have had some touch up here and there and the paint is far from perfect up close. The factory color is very rare, a one-year color called Bedouin Beige. That said, it passes the 10-footer test with flying colors as you can see in the photos which I took last week. There is a small stress crack (about an inch) above the drivers side mirror. I've seen this before on other MGB's I've owned. The previous owner said it's been the same way for years and isn't a new issue.
The interior is good with what appears to be the original harvest gold factory carpet showing some wear. The back seat and rear deck lid carpet show some sun fading of the color. The front seats were refurbished with Moss cloth seat covers. All gauges work. The factory radio works! The dash has no cracks and is in nice shape. The door cards show some wear but are in good shape. Both front windows roll up and down without issue and both rear windows pop out as they should. I have rubber custom fitted MGB floor mats and MG logo seat belt pads.
Chrome and glass is nice all around.
The B rides on four Michelin X-One tires with about 70% tread remaining. There is a spare MBG rostyle wheel with trim ring in the trunk but the tire needs to be replaced.
The engine (and title) show 135,000 miles which I believe to be accurate for the car. I have no history on the engine or transmission being rebuilt but oil pressure is a steady 65 at 3,000 rpm's. Very minor oil drips on my garage floor- typical stuff. The 4 speed transmission shifts tighter than any other B I've ever owned (I've had 3 B's and 3 GT's over the past 20 years). A previous owner added an electric fuel pump. The only mechanical issue to report is some occassional grinding when trying to engage 4th gear. I usually have to hunt for 4th when shifting and haven't explored the issue. I assume it's a bushing in that gear but I don't work on my cars so I won't attempt to diagnose it beyond that. I drive it like it is and it doesn't bother me.
The nice thing about this car is it's originality. The original dual carbs are still there and no one has done any major modifications. The underside has typical surface rust and wear but zero rust/rot through. This is a dry and solid western car that has always been garaged since coming to the east coast. Another nice added benefit...there's an on-board battery charger already wired-in. Just plug it in to a nearby outlet when parked...easy!
Please note that two small badges on the lower rear side of the car and the headlight grilles have been removed since I took these photos last week. The car is garaged just outside of Charlottesville, Va. and just a few miles from the Charlottesville airport. Fly in and drive home if you wish. I am also happy to work with your shipper. Personal inspections are encouraged with an appointment.
I have tried to honestly describe the car to the best of my knowledge. It is sold "as-is" and there are no warranties given or implied. I'm happy to respond to any questions through the Ebay email system and can usually get back to you within 12 hours. I have several interested local buyers and also have the car listed in other venues so the listing will be taken down as soon as the car sells. Thanks for looking.
