Description of 1951 MG T-Series

Here is an extremely nice 1951 TD which has been parked since the early 80s. I bought the car in 2009 from a well known NEMGTR member who had built the car to compete in the GOF marathons back in the 70s. He ran the car for about 10 years and then parked it in his garage in upstate New York until I removed it in 2009.
The car has a totally rust free, rot free body with solid wood throughout. See the photos of the lower corners of the tub showing the proper rocker panel seam and the bondo free, solid quarter panels.
As the paint was deteriorated when I bought the car, it was disassembled, all parts stripped to bare metal and a proper respray of Dove Grey paint applied. Because the car had been sitting for nearly 30 years, I had the fuel tank cleaned and sealed when the car was disassembled. Door fit is excellent...much better than most T series cars.
The engine is a fully rebuilt Mark II number TD3/21729 and is properly fitted with large valves and 1 1/2 inch carburetors. Dual fuel lines and dual fuel pumps have been fitted to the car although only one pump is operating. It has a dual outlet exhaust system (perhaps a Stebro) which emits a pleasant British sports car sound. Other than stationary running in, the engine has no miles on it.
Wire wheels are 60 spoke with Michelin tires. New chrome knock-offs were installed last year. There is plenty of tread, but the tires may be too old for safe use. Wheels are in good condition, but need a good cleaning. The brake system was completely rebuilt last summer and has zero miles on it.
The leather seats were installed in the 70s and are in very good shape. The leather is supple with no tears and has just the right amount of patina. Carpeting is new and was made from bulk material. A new steering wheel with an original centerpiece was recently installed. The wooden aftermarket dash (cracked in the lower right corner looks good and features two proper period grab handles. All of the instruments function although the tach is very jumpy and erratic. Dash is complete with the exception of the clock.
Both the top and four side curtains are vinyl and are in very good condition. The plastic windows are clear with just minor scratches. The side curtain box at the rear of the tub has been removed to give more luggage room. A vinyl tonneau cover is included, but the condition is not as good as the top and side curtains.
The bumpers have very good chrome and appear to be dent and bend free. The rest of the chrome is very presentable, but not perfect. Other notable items are proper King of the Road headlights with Lucas Tri-Pod lenses and chrome plated mounting brackets.
On the negative side are two small scratches in the right rear fender (see photos). Also, the windshield frame is in need of new screws holding the vertical supports to the left and right frame members.
True mileage is unknown, amount shown is simply a guess.
The car is located in Burlington, Wisconsin and can be inspected at any time. The car can be picked up in Burlington. I will assist with overseas shipment if the successful buyer makes shipping arrangements. Also, I may be able to deliver it in Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania or New York for a reasonable fee. Contact Ed at 847-830-7193 for further details.
In summary, this is a great looking car that would make an excellent driver. It isn't concours, but it will certainly win awards at most shows.
