1954 Oldsmobile Rocket Listed this week is a 1954 Olds 88 Rocket that I bought from an Estate. I hate the phrase "Barn find" as it is way over used BUT it really does apply here. Any way this car has been in this area(Des Moines) its whole life. I had the original owner stop in when he saw it out front as we were cleaning the old girl off. He sold the car in 1978 to a gentleman 60 miles north of Des Moines. The car was driven for less than a year and was parked in a machine shed until I purchased it 4 weeks ago. The car was cleaned up and we spent several hours trying to get it running with no luck. I think there is a spark issue or rather lack of spark. I checked the compression and it is between 60-80 so that's not helping. The person I had work on it is a parts changer and not a mechanic. Point being this is a NON-running car so bring a trailer. I am sure someone, omewhere will look at the pictures and comment but as far as I have seen, think everything on the car is original. The car has maybe 50% original paint. The interior is absolutely original and in REALLY good shape compared to most any car that is 62 years old. I have found no rust issues anywhere. You may go over it inch by inch and find some somewhere but I looked her over really good and I didn't notice anything and I was amazed. The tires are junk but one will hold air(slow leak). Chrome and all emblems are very good. Glass is almost perfect. The wire harness has never beenchopped(unbelievable). This car will be one of the easiest restorations a person could ask for. I almost forgot the original owner had the trunk lid painted white from the dealer before he picked the car up. Get the engine running and go through the brakes and you will have a VERY cool driver. Look over these pictures of this car. Look at the door panels, he seats, nd the dash. It is so rare to find a 60 plus year old car in this condition and the best part it is....It's FOR SALE at NO RESERVE. I really want to keep the car but just DO NOT have room with winter just around the corner. I am not trying to appraise the car or trying to ask some insane price like most people selling on Ebay. I sell ALL my cars with no reserve this way you know I am serious about selling my cars along with you know exactly who you are bidding against. Thanks for looking and good luck!
