70 OLDSMOBILE TRUE 344 v.i.n. 442 W-30
Opportunities like this don't come around very often. This is an extremely rare genuine 1970 Oldsmobile 442 that I'm sure most 442 guyswill tend to agree that you rarely see a real 442 with this many factory options. It's a good time to treat yourself to an early Christmas present. 1970 has proven to be one of the most expensive and highly sought after years to acquire from the pinnacle of the muscle car era. My buddy and I made this purchase from a gentleman who had owned this 442 since somewhere in the 1980's. He said this genuine 442 is a true W-30 that does havethe original 12-bolt positive traction 442 rear-end with the original boxed control arms, nd the original rear sway bar. This was his daily driver back then before cloning was in vogue, o we believe it is a true W-30 exactly like he said. The original red fender wells look to be original to this car. He said this was an 11-second car in the quarter mile the way he had the engine set-up. He also said this 442 would smoke just about anything on the street back then. This Big Block Rocket 455 engine has an Edelbrock Torker Performance aluminum intake manifold with a Holley Double Pumper 4-barrel carburetor. We never attempted to fire up this Rocket 455, ecause it is not the original numbers matching engine. We were given another Rocket 455 block that we were told is the original block that came with this car. That's why we never bothered to fire it up. We figured the new owner would rather have a 1970 W-30 motor in this car and buy an original W-30 aluminum intake manifold with the correct Rochester Quadrajet carburetor. Apparently the engine currently in this 442 is an original 1972 Big Block Rocket 455 that came out of another real 1972 442. The engine in the car has the correct W and Z exhaust manifolds, lthough being from a 1972 442 it has G-heads. This engine does have the proper 396021 F casting numbers for 1970-1972 442's. We are leaving the engine choice up to the new owner whether they want to fire up the engine currently in the car or swap it out for the 455 block shown in the pictures included in this sale. We searched this factory original true 442 for W-30 documentation. We looked for the build sheet under the carpet, nd inside the front bucket seats and rear seats. No luck in any of those spots, however no one has looked under the gas tank. That treasure hunt up will be left up to the new owner. We've onlyowned this car since the beginning of summer. This purchase was made in a massive package deal with parts, nd helping this fellow 442 lover with restoring another 1970 442 that he owns. He said that doing that restoration for him was the only way he was willing to part with his real 442 W-30. Theclean and clear title was issued to the previous owner on July 2nd, 991. The actual mileagestated on the odometer was77,601 at that time. The current odometer reading is just over 91,000 miles.We have no way to verify the mileage as original. Nowadays the mileagecomes upexempton a new title when a car is freshly registered and is more than 10 years old. This genuine 442 is 45 years old and is truly a barn find from upstate Wisconsin that has been sittingfor almost 25 years.We will explain everythingwe know about this real 442, o the lucky bidder who wins thisrare gemcan decide exactly what they would like to spendprior to placing their bid. We would estimate this car needing 20K invested to bringthis 442 upto thehigh endlevel that it deserves. This car has had only one re-paint. The paint work on this car is presentable, utwe like things meticulous and we can not say this car is near show quality. It has a nice daily driver type paint job, ut the stripes did come out spectacular. The fenders on this carare original 1970 442 fenders.From everything we've seen and have been told about thiscar, e personally believe this to be a true W-30, ut the gold is in the build sheet. The hood is an original genuine GM ram-air hood. It does have the proper chrome twistdowns, nd the receivers that both work and twist great. The front and the rear floor pans have had some patchwork and are the originals that have never been replaced. The carpeting is new with a new set of fourblack carpetedfloor mats. The front bucket seats appear in pretty nice condition. The rear seats are originals, nd look very nice. The headliner is still there, ut could use a replacement. The side panels in the front and rear all look relatively nice. We didn't see any cracks in the dash board, and the original AM/FM radio is still in the dash. This dash was never cut up like was typically done back in the day to fit aftermarket stereo's. We showed in one of the pictures that inside the drivers door it still possesses the original General Motors date of manufacture decal from 12-69 with the vin number still in tact. This442 sits on a set of four B. F. Goodrich Radial T/A raised white lettered steel belted radial tires withgood tread mounted on 14 inch Super Stock II wheels painted to match the body color. All four wheels have all four bolt-on center caps,all fourbeauty trim rings, nd all new chrome lug nuts. The original trunk floor has had some patch work, ut was coated with A/C Delco black and aqua spatter spray to appear like it did out of the factory. There is a new trunk mat witha restored jack, ack stand,and crow bar. Also included in the trunk is full size Super Stock II spare tire. In our opinion the frame still appears in nice shape. This442 came from thefactory with power front disc brakes and air conditioning. The air conditioning compressor is long gone, ut it appears that most of the other components are there if the new owner would like to make the air conditioning functional again some day. It is very rare to find a real 442 with this many factory options that include: power steering, ower disc brakes, ower windows, ower door locks, ower trunk, ucket seats, onsole with dual gate shifter, ear deffoger, ilt wheel, nd cruise control. The seventh digit in the vehicle identification number is an M, hich stipulates that this model was built in Michigan. All of the 1970 W-30 models came out ofLansing Michigan only. Included in the glove box is a 1970Oldsmobile original owner's manual. These older classics that have survived for nearly half a century are becoming harder and harder to find. The lowest value does not represent a parts car, ut would be considered as the price for a car needing a complete restoration.
