Description of 1974 Oldsmobile 442 Hurst Olds with Dual Gate Shifter

1974 Oldsmobile Hurst Olds W-30 being sold at "No Reserve"

This was your Father's Oldsmobile back in the 1970's if you had the coolest Dad on the block. This True Hurst Olds is a real W-30. In 1974 they only made 1800 Hurst Olds. Of the 1800 made only 380 were real W-30's. This is a super rare muscle car. This body has all original paint, and all the original gold stripes, so the winner knows exactly what they are purchasing. The two-tone black with white center stripe vinyl top still appears is in good condition. I didn't see any evidence of this Hurst Olds ever being involved in any accidents, or any panels being changed. Like the old saying goes, a car only comes original once. Even the hood ornament is still on the cool slotted factory hood.

Opportunities like this don't come around very often. It is no great secret that mostly all the coolest muscle cars have more than doubled and even tripled in price over the last 10-15 years. People have been treating these classic cars like the works of art that they were back in the day. These Hurst Olds are becoming to be some of the most expensive and highly sought after muscle cars to acquire from the end of the pinnacle of the muscle car era. I believe in any economy the classic and muscle car market has remained the most solid investment anyone can make.
Every time I watch or attend live auctions the purchase prices just keep climbing. There simply are not that many classics left in existence. The more natural disasters that happen the more of these beautiful works of art are just eliminated.Chances are that the average person will never see another one of these True W-30 cars from 1974 in person in their lifetime.I can't even remember the last time I saw one on the streets. It has to be more than 30 years.
I recently purchased this sweet Rare Hurst Olds from a gentleman in Belleview, Missouri.I have to say this Olds drives straight down the road with finger tip control with the cool four spoke 442 steering wheel. I only stepped on it once when I went over to shoot the pictures a couple weeks ago, and you definitely know you have a Big Block Rocket 455 under the hood. Doesn't every Olds guy want a Big Block Rocket. I have receipts from an AAMCO transmission shop where the Turbo 400 transmission was rebuilt in Oklahoma City, Okla when this H/O had 59,020 miles on it. Therefore I believe the reason this Olds stayed in this relatively nice original condition was because it spent the majority of its prior life down in the warmer climate.
I was going to surprise my son with this H/O for his 40th birthday a little over a week ago. His Senior year high school car was a 1973 Black and Gold Hurst Olds. He happened to see this car prior to the surprise I had in store, and says he really has his heart set on getting another 1973, so that is the reason for the sale. I told him he will probably have to wait until he's 50. All three of the '73, '74, and '75 models were very limited production. I can't even remember seeing any on eBay in quite some time.
There were several new items replaced on this car by the previous owner. I have only owned this Olds for about a month. I will try and do my best to explain everything I was told about this car prior to making the purchase. Before I made the purchase the previous owner had replaced all the spark plugs, and spark plug wires. He installed a brand new Edelbrock carburetor, and new air cleaner air filter, so this Big Block fires right up.
The pair of dual exhaust appears in very good condition, and makes this Rocket 455 sound wicked to say the least. The tail pipes have sweet dual chrome trumpet exhaust tips coming out on each side of the rear bumper. I don't know if they are factory correct, but they are welded on both sides and look cool. The rear-end is believed to be the original 10-bolt posi-traction rear end with the factory rear sway bar. The power brakes have a new master cylinder with power front disc brakes.
This is an original Code 19 19 Ebony Black on Black car as verified by the data plate picture in the picture section.
If you have been searching for an investment quality muscle car that you can jump right in, and show up at your local car show then this extremely rare low production H/O may just have your name on it. The original paint does have some patina showing, but is respectable to drive as is, or this car can have a relatively easy restoration to bring it up to the next level. I do believe the brand new correct Gold factory stripe kit can be purchased at Phoenix Graphics for a reasonable price.
The black carpeting still looks to be in good shape, and a brand new set of fourblack carpeted deluxe floor mats were just placed on the floors in preparation for this sale. These very expensive swivel bucket seats and the back seats were all recently professionally reupholstered prior to my purchase. They swivel really nice and lock in place like they should. All 5 pairs of the original seat belts for a full family of five are still in place and in good working condition. I must say this car is very comfortable to drive. A full family of five can enjoy going to see a movie at the local drive-in movie theater with pride.
The dashboard is in very nice shape, and I could not see any cracking anywhere. The console is in very good condition with the awesome Hurst Dual-Gate shifter. Also known as the "His and Hers" shifter. The dash has an aftermarket JVC AM/FM Cassette player stereo. The stereo does work, but sound is only coming from the right front dash speaker. There are some nice 6x9 speakers on the back package tray, but I don't believe they are hooked up. This dash was never cut up to fit any aftermarket CD players. The JVC stereo fit right in the correct radio position, so an original Olds AM/FM could be simply switched out if the new owner would like that original factory look of authenticity.
This Hurst Olds sits up just right on a nice set of four like new Mastercraft Avenger G/T P225/70R15 inch raised white lettered steel belted radial tires on a set of four 15" inch Super Stock II wheels painted Gold as these cars came from the factory. All four wheels have all four center caps, all chrome lug nuts, and all four correct beauty trim rings. The trunk floor was coated with A/C Delco black and aqua spatter spray to appear like it came out of the factory. The trunk floor actually looks brand new, but it is the original trunk floor. The original jack, jack stand, and crow bar are all present with the twistdown hardware to attach the jack in the proper factory location above the spare tire. The original jacks are usually long gone. Also included in the trunk is full size spare tire. Always good to have a spare incase there is ever a mishap on the road.
This Hurst Olds has the original slotted hood, tinted glass, power steering, power front disc brakes, rally gauges, swivel bucket seats, console with Dual Gate shifter, dual sport mirrors, Super Stock II Wheels, and factory air conditioning. It seems like all of the a/c components are in place except for the compressor. I was given a nice a/c compressor with the mounting bracket, so that will be included in the trunk for the new owner to install if they like. This Olds is steered by the awesome four spoke 442 sport wheel.
I showed a picture of the most recent Missouri Vehicle Inspection decal showing this H/O passed all inspections recently in March of 2021 last year. This Olds is being sold with an open, clean, and clear title issued from the State of Missouri. The actual mileagestated on the odometer reads exempt. Ihave no way to verify the mileage as original, although nowadays the mileagecomes upexempt in most states on a new change of ownership title when a car is more than 10 years old. The previous owner did say that the mileage showing on the odometer is original and accurate. The title will be sent to the winning bidder by U.S. Priority Mail the same day the funds are clear.
These older classics that have survived for over half a century are becoming harder and harder to find.
The J.D. Powers Nada Classic Car Price Guide currently hasa genuine1974 Oldsmobile Hurst Olds with the Rocket 455, and air conditioning listed at$59,210in high condition, which theyconsider an excellent overall vehicle that was completely restored, or an original vehicle showing very minimal wear. Note: This value does not represent a 100 point show car or a #1 vehicle. Those vehicles can reach much higher prices.
Nada has the average condition value at$39,215which theyconsider in good overall condition that could be an older restoration or a well maintained original vehicle that is completely operable. The exterior paint, trim, and mechanics are presentable and serviceable inside and out. They say an average condition car is considered a20-Footer!
They have the lowest condition valued at$26,815being considered a deteriorated restoration or a very poor restoration, but mostly usable "As-Is!" The lowest value does not represent a parts car, but would be considered as the price for a car needing a complete restoration.
The Nada numbers don't lie! The 1974 Hurst Olds True W-30 is a very valuable rarely ever seen muscle car. It would be very hard to find a classic muscle car of this magnitude.
