Description of 1968 Other Makes Javelin 390 4 SPEED LIMITED PRODUCTION AMC JAVELIN |
1968 AMCJavelinSST.Factory 390 4 V engine X code M code 4 Speed.Quick Ratio Manual Steering, iltSteering Column,In dash Tach, ower Front Disc Brakes, win Grip (positraction) Rear Axle. 831-E Black Interior, xterior Paint P52-A Scarab Gold Metallic, lack Vinal Top. Period 15" El Tigure Magnesum (Torque Thrust Style) rims. Make no mistake. This is the King Kong Javelin. This car waspurchased in Ga and brought to Ohio someyears ago. Since being in Ohio it has NEVER been out in the winter and has always been stored inside. The 390 I believe is original to the car as is the T10 4 speed transmission. This has been yet another car I purchased years agoto restore and has always been on the backburner. It was running when I parked it. I fogged the cylinders with oil and added Staybil to the fuel tank. With the proper wakeup which would include;circulate the oil to prevent a dry start, resh spark plugs and the usual checksthe car will run. Be advised that should you decide to view the car in person I will NOT put a hot battery and hit the carburator withstarting fluidjust so you can hear it run. I will not take a chance on damaging it. So if planning to ship the car with a commercial carrier be advised that it is a non-op. I will not build the car so it will drive up on a truck. Use common sense. The little extra you have to pay for a non-op far outweighs blowing up the motor. History I purchased the car just like you see it. Parked since the late 1970's. As you can see at some point a restoration was started. The interior was removed and had been stored away from the car. This I was told to me by the previous owner. It is typical early Javelin. Replacement seat covers are available. The body looks nice howeverI do not know what is under the primer. Previous ownerstarted the body work. The body is above average. What it doesNOT have is the usual rust. What is seen is the floors are solid. The frame and rockers are as well. The trunk has scale where the tail light panel meet the floorbut like the whole car is nice. The main issues would be where the battery leaked and rusted through the tray and apron. Also a hole was drilled in the radiator support for ram air. The bottom of the radiator support looks like it had work and is very common because all tow trucks had the dreaded sling. Javelins havenever liked the old wreckers! I tried to show you everything. If you need to know anything else let me know. Please note that the drivers door is original. It has the proper trim tag. ManyJavelins at some point have hadtheir doors replaced. This one has not. Also both door jambs are not stress cracked and rewelded where the striker is.Both are just as AMC installed them. The Radiator is a rareearly McCord unit with the AMC Part number 3179189 I have the trim that was removed from the car although I have never taken a complete inventory. I believe it is all here. I do not have the tunnel cover or the air cleaner. Points of interest for the AMCJavelin. 1968 is thefirst year for the AMC Javelin. When the Javelin wasintroduced the largest engine available was the 343 4V. The 390 4V engine option was only available after the AMX was introduced as some believe that the powers at American Motors did not wantanything toover shadow theintroduction of the newAMX. The AMX engine390 was a half a year option. Very few were made and even less survive. In factI have seen only two 1968 Javelins with the 390/4speed in the last 10 years posted on the interweb. In the 1980's collectors started noticing the AMX whenit was just a used car. That is when the carnege started for the Javelin. It should also be noted that many Javelin's were, ave beenparted out over the years and continue. In 1968 Javelin competed in Trans AM racing for the first time. Plenty of interesting info on the web about the Racing heritage. Check it out. Acool factoid This Javelinhas TWO vin plates. It has the vin on the right shock tower as they all do BUT also in the top of the dash. The twomatch. There is a period of a few weeks where this anomily took place. It is explained in detail by Eddie Stakes (Planet Houston AMX) Known issues. The carneeds restored. Theworst damage forrust comes from a leaky battery as pictured.I did have the panel to replace just have to find it. The front bumper is tweeked and is not shown but comes with the car. The grille is broken but too is restorable. Serious Stuff. Of course the usual blanket disclaimer to be 100% percent mint it needs a 100% restoration. What that means is that it is a vintage car thatis non running. It is unrestored. It is a vintage unrestored car. It will have seeps/leaks/rattles/bumps and bruses. I have made NO attempt to cover up anything. Other vehicles on the block in the upcoming weeks are a 1960 Rambler American 2 door wagon. 1961 Rambler Classic wagon fact A/C,1966 Marlin Street Racer, 969 BBO/Mod Javelin 390/4Spd., 978 Pacer Wagon factoryV8 this is a very special car. 1979 Spirit AMX 304 4spd.Plus will be selling many of my related nos parts so stay tuned.
