Description of 1968 Other Makes

SUNBEAM ALGER
HERE IS A CHANCE TO OWN A TIGER AT A FRACTION OF THE TIGER PRICE
THIS CAR STARTED LIFE AS A 1967 MARK 2 TIGER, nbsp;THE OWNER LIVED ON THE EAST COAST AND RACED IT FOR MANY YEARS UNTIL HE CRASHED IT IN THE EARLY 90'S. THE SHELL WAS BEYOND REPAIR SO HE TOOK A 1968 ALPINE AS A DONOR CAR.
ALL THE TIGER PARTS WERE SWAPPED ON TO THE ALPINE, nbsp; FIREWALL, EAR END, ROSSMEMBER, NTERIOR, ADGING, XHAUST CUTOUTS ON X MEMBER, EAR TRACTION BARS ETC. . THE OWNER PREVIOUS TO ME LIVED IN SOUTHERN CA AND BROUGHT THE CAR THERE TO DO AN EXTENSIVE RESTORATION INCLUDING A FULL REPAINT, WITCHED TO WHITE FROM THE STOCK RED, ECHROMING OF TRIM, NTERIOR MAKE OVER JUST TO NAME A FEW ITEMS. I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM HIM ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO AS HE HAD STOPPED DRIVING IT AND IT WAS FALLING INTO DISREPAIR.
IT IS SHOWING ITS AGE IN THE PAINT AND TRIM ITEMS. THE CAR CAN DO WITH A COMPLETE REPAINT, nbsp;IT IS NOT A RUST BUCKET BUT THE PAINT HAS BEGAN TO BUBBLE IN ABOUT 6 SPOTS WHERE THE WHITE TOP COAT IS LOOSENING FROM THE RED UNDER COAT. SEE PHOTO OF CORNER OF DRIVERS DOOR, nbsp;NOT RUST, nbsp;JUST DE- LAMINATING. ALL THESE SPOTS ARE LESS THAN QUARTER SIZE. THE CHROME WORK AS WELL HAS SOME PITTING FROM AGE. IF YOU WANT A TOP LINE SHOW CAR IT COULD USE REDOING. THERE ARE A COUPLE WEAR MARKS ON THE CARPET AND THE SEATS HAVE A COUPLE SMALL TEARS IN THEM ON THE EDGES. I AM TRYING TO DESCRIBE THE CAR AS HONESTLY AS POSSIBLE. IT IS VERY SOLID AND IS A FANTASTIC DAILY DRIVER WHICH IS HOW I USED IT.
SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR I HAVE DONE THE FOLLOWING: REDONE FRONT AND REAR BRAKES TO INCLUDE NEW PADS AND DRUMS IN REAR, EW CALIPERS AND DISCS TURNED IN FRONT. ALL FOUR SHOCKS REPLACED WITH GAS SELF ADJUSTING ONES. NEW PERIOD CORRECT 13 X 5.5 APPLIANCE WHEELS. THE CAR HAD A SMALL DASH FIRE A COUPLE YEARS AGO FROM A SHORT IN THE TACH. AFTER WARDS I RE-VENEERED THE DASH INMAHOGANY, NSTALLED ALL NEW SMITHS MAGNOLIA GAUGES, ND INSTALLED A COMPLETE NEW STREET ROD WIRING HARNESS FROM KWIK-WIRE. THE HEATER BLOWER BOX WASDAMAGED AS WAS THE WINDSHIELD WASHER PUMP SO I REMOVED THEM COMPLETELY, nbsp;YOU COULD EASILY INSTALL A NEW ONE BUT IT DOESNT GET DRIVEN IN THE WINTER.
THEORIGINALOWNER HAD THE MOTOR BUILT AND INSTALLED, nbsp;THE CAR COMES WITH A FILE OF RECEIPTS 2 INCHES THICK. THE MOTOR IS A MID 80'S 302, USTOM MADE PISTONS, ID RANGE CAM ROLLER ROCKERS, nbsp;IT HAD A 650 HOLLEY WHEN I GOT IT AND I SWAPPED TO A NEWLY REBUILT ONE LAST YEAR AS WELL AS A COMPLETE PERTRONIX COIL AND DISTRIBUTOR PACKAGE. THE RADIATOR WASPROFESSIONALLYRE COREDEARLIER THIS YEAR AND IT DOES NOT RUN HOT, nbsp; THE PREVIOUS OWNER INSTALLED ANAUXILIARYELECTRIC FAN IN FRONT BUT I HAVE NEVER HAD TO USE IT SINCE HAVING THE CORE REDONE.
THE CAR IS VERY VERY QUICK AND WILL PUT ANY STOCK TIGER TO SHAME ON PERFORMANCE. IT IS REALLY FUN TO DRIVE. THE MOTOR HAS TWIN EXHAUST THAT SOUNDS FANTASTIC, nbsp;I DO NOT HAVE A RADIO IN THE CAR SINCE THE SOUND OF THE V8 PURRING ALONG AT 70 MPH OR MORE IS SUCH A TREAT. IT DOES HAVE A TOP IN PERFECT SHAPE, nbsp;I JUSTDIDN'TTAKE ANY PICTURES OF IT UP BUT IF YOU WANT TO SEE ANYMORE PICTURES PLEASE JUST ASK. I AM ONLY SELLING THIS AS IDECIDEDTO KEEP THE MINI PROJECT I HAVE BEEN WORKING ON AN WIFE SAYS ONLY SOO MANY TOYS. THIS CAR IS NOT, REPEAT NOT A TIGER.
ALL OF THE TIGER PARTS WERE SWAPPED INTO THE DONOR ALPINE, nbsp;IT IS REGISTERED AS A 1968 SUNBEAM ALPINE. IT DOES HOWEVER LOOK LIKE A TIGER, nbsp;SMELL LIKE A TIGER, nbsp;FEEL LIKE A TIGER, nbsp;RIDE LIKE A TIGER, nbsp;HANDLE LIKE A TIGER, nbsp; BUT... WILL OUT PERFORM ANY STOCK TIGER. THE FORD MECHANIC WHO SERVICES THE CAR READ THROUGH THE ENGINE BUILD SPEC SHEET AND RECEIPTS FROM THE PREVIOUS OWNER AND ESTIMATES THIS AS 300 HP, EARLY 2 TIMES THAT OF ACOMPLETELYSTOCK TIGER, ET ATA FRACTION OF THE TIGER PRICE.
I HAVE CHOSEN TO RELIST IT ONE TIME, nbsp;IF IT DOES NOT SELL I WILL BE PUTTING IT IN STORAGE FOR THE WINTER. THE CAR HAS BEEN APPRAISED AND IS INSURED WITH HAGERTY AT AN AGREED VALUE OF $28,000.00, BOUT A THIRD OF WHAT A TRUE TIGER WOULD BE COVERED FOR. I HAVE ADDED A COUPLE PICTURES OF THE UNDERSIDE AND THE SILLS. I ALSO WILL INCLUDE SEVERAL SPARE PARTS, nbsp;A SET IF COBRA VALVE COVERS, TONNEAU, PARE SET OF FRONT A ARMS AND A SPARE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER.
I JUST TOOK IT ON AN OUT OF TOWN TRIP LAST WEEKEND, nbsp;200 MILE JAUNT ON THE INTERSTATE AND IT PURRS ALONG AT 85/90 MPH WITH NO ISSUES. REALLY A FUN CAR TO DRIVE. AFTER SPEAKING TO A COUPLE OTHER SUNBEAM OWNERS I HAVECHOSENTO HEED THEIR ADVICE AND LOWERED THE RESERVE TO WHAT THEY FELT WAS A TRUE VALUE FOR THE CAR EVEN THOUGH I THINK IT IS WORTH MORE, UT I AM NOT IN THE CAR MARKET VERY MUCH ANYMORE. I HAVE DROPPED THE BUY IT NOW AND THE RESERVE IS VERY REASONABLE. GOOD LUCK.
