Description of 1962 International Harvester Scout Removable Top and Fold Down Windshield Scout |
"The Making of a fun Scout for Today!"Every once in awhile something interesting catches my eye and this little Scout caught my eye. I am a broker and have been hired to sell this vehicle. I have taken the pictures with my own digital camera and downloaded them. The pictures have not been manipulated or photo shopped. Up for this auction. is this really nice 1962 International Scout 80. The current owner has had a lot of fun putting this little gem back together. This Scout 80 got some great added upgrades. and makes this a very powerful and dependable little workhorse. Replacing the old 4 cylinder with a new 4. 3 liter V-6 cylinder Chevy S-10 Engine. makes this a good runner. At the same time the old manual transmission was replaced with a 3 speed automatic transmission to match up to the engine and keep up with modern roads. The owner says it seems to run with out any problems. even cruising at 70 mph on the freeway. It comes with a Holley Carburator. new radiator with electric fan and oil cooler. The old and original drive axles were upgraded. by installing axles from a Scout II. the second series Scout from the 1970's. which had better and stronger and more durable axles than the original Scout axles. It has locking hubs to be able to put in 4 wheel drive mode. It comes with a roll bar. new upholstered seats. front bucket and rear bench. Custom made and adjustable running boards. were installed and painted with the black Mellenium paint (also known as bedliner paint) on the bumpers and top. The Scout collapsable windshield works perfectly. New tires and wheels added. LT285/70/17 American Racing ATX Series rims. for on and off road driving. Has been painted the original International Scout color for 1962; "Spray Green". The use of Mellenium paint has been used not only on the outside but in places on the inside for durability. Diamond plate aluminum was used on the dash and other parts of the interior. Front bumper designed to be adapted for a hitch so that it can be towed behind a motor home. Rear tail gate comes down and rear window goes up. shows the rear shelf and the 22 gallon gas tank and access. It does not have a radio. but has a cigarette lighter. so you can put any electronic gizmo in there and play all your tunes on whatever you want. No air conditioning. but it does have the working Mojave Heater. It has a set of three switches in the center. one for a rear light to be able to see behind you at night. the other switch is to turn on an auxiliary fan for the radiator for extra cooling if needed. The other switch for your interior light. This guy thought of everything when he wanted to make this a good strong working vehicle to use everyday. It has a spare gas can. in the back seat. This Scout have been put together for fun. and fun it is and what power. and can go anywhere and move around and over almost anything. It runs good and drives good. One of the first orignal SUV's that came out on the market. and still stands as the orignal SUV icon. Come and drive this thing. it's a blast!"International Harvester"In 2011. the International Harvester Scout celebrated 50 years. It debuted in November of 1960. the Scout was a step forward in the sport utility market. The project was to make a vehicle to compete with the Jeep CJ. The scout at first was rugged. it seemed to appeal at first to the military market and then was made into a more recreational vehicle for the masses. One of the features of the Scout is that is was by far much more roomier than the other SUV's of the day. The original scout 80 came with the 4 cylinder Comanche 152ci engine with only 93 hp. The comanche had a gross rating of 18 hp an 23 foot pounds above Jeeps High compression 4 cylinder. Customer feedback helped international make changes to the scout 80 from 1961 to 1965. making it popular and producing and selling 100. 00 Scout 80's by the time it was superseded by the 800 series. The Scout inspired other auto makers to come up with their interpretations. including the Ford Bronco. the Jeep Commando and then the Chevy Blazer that came out in 1969. "The Terms.
