Description of 1940 Other Makes green leather |
Up for sale is an all original, running, 1940 LaSalle four-door convertible sedan that has never been restored. Out of only a reported 75 produced, there is estimated that only ten still exist. This one may have had a celebrity ownership since it was reported that the composer Cole Porter had owned it but no documentation exists to prove it. Car has the Cadillac derived LaSalle flathead V-8 engine and has 130 h. p. with a three-speed manual floor shift transmission. It has a radio, heater, trim rings, a grille guard and a fog light.
The body is damage-free with little rust. The dark green paint has some checking and is dull but may polish up. Top is dirty, and may clean up having two small tears on the left side. Chrome has some scratches and is thin. Stainless is all there and in good condition. All glass is original having the correct GM “bug” with no cracks. Interior is all original having some leather age cracking. Trunk area is all original and somewhat worn and has a very old spare tire. This car starts easily, runs well, and the engine can be hardly heard turning over at idle. Car is for sale locally and the auction may be removed at any time.
