Description of 1966 Other Makes |
The '66 Sunbeam Alpine. at 2200 lbs and approximately 99 bhp. has enough zip to be a fun open-top country roads ride. This particular Alpine began life in Mediterranean Blue and changed some years ago to this shiny red. It has minor dings and dents and is a "ten-footer. but shows no signs of rust other than a blister on the right rocker. The underneath side shows only surface rust and appears to have strong bones. Pans look good. Little if any bondo has been detected. This could make for a great Tiger conversion or enjoy it as is. The interior is quite nice other than a split in the driver's seat (pictured). The carpets appear new. the dash is near perfect. and the gauges all look great. Having said that. the tach works intermittently and the gas gauge is always optimistically half full. The speedo seems to run a little fast. so actual mileage is anyone's guess. The water temperature shows that it's running hot. though a digital scan shows it actually runs at 175F. The blower. blinkers. and cigarette lighter work. as do the passenger and driver footwell lights and all running lights. The clock runs briefly when it feels like it. An electric antenna does not function. but radio works fine. New battery. All fluids were just professionally replaced (Eric Jones Motorsports). along with new wires. fuel lines. and oil filter. The engine starts easily and runs strong; oil pressure is good. The front disc brakes were redone by previous owner. but braking seems a bit soft. so brakes may not have been properly seated. The brake servo holds vacuum. as tested by the mechanic. Transmission shifts smoothly. Tires are in nice shape with plenty of tread. The top and rear window are in great shape. This Alpine was purchased at an estate sale last fall from a family that had owned it for many years and kept in dry storage. The intent was to convert it to Tiger specs but another project has come along. All in all. a sound car and a fun drive. Every effort has been made to give an honest description. $500 deposit due via Paypal upon winning bid. It is for sale locally as well. Buyer to pay all shipping costs.
