Description of 1967 Austin Healey 3000 |
This beautiful big Healey ended up in the estate of my brother. a collector in Northern Virginia. I took possession of the car last October through a vintage car dealer in DC who was involved in handling a part of my brother's collection. Long story. I drove the car on a beautiful fall day up the east coast from DC to Rhode Island--a little over 400 miles--and I continued to drive the car locally until the weather came. whereupon it has been stored in my garage along side a couple of cars from the collection. I would not hesitate to drive this car cross country. It runs. drives. and rides beautifully. I have given very serious consideration to keeping the Healey as the 3000 Mk III is one of my favorite cars of all time. and quite frankly the other cars in the collection aren't really my thing (massive Buick. Aston DB9. '66 T-Bird. etc. ). If not for the fact that my two small children are not allowed to ride in this car I would probably keep it forever. I love it. Here is a description of the car by the vintage car dealer in DC where the car was originally listed:"Lovely example of the last year for the big Healey 3000 MK III. Local Virginia car that was completely restored 7 years ago and driven under 10. 00 miles since. Last owner was very well known. local Healey specialist who maintained it well and kept garaged. Body fit is as good as I have ever seen and we have owned many over the years. Doors close fantastic and has never had any accidents with no rust anywhere. All chrome trim. glass. rubber trim. etc. are excellent and paint is quite good but not show quality. Interior is all new with original walnut dash plus gauges being redone beautifully and working perfectly. Seats. door panels. carpets and soft top are all correct with factory tonneau cover there as well. Mechanically the car runs and drives wonderful with everything performing superbly. Previous owner. who has been in Healey service and restoration for over the last 30 years. claims it is one of the finest driving 3000's he has ever owned and we have to agree. Underneath the car is also very rust free. all new suspension. exhaust. brake components etc. and nicely detailed with pictures available upon request. All 5 wire wheels are in great shape and tires are very good. Also comes with jack and lead hammer for knockoffs. Overall a very nice car that can been driven with pride and confidence to any rallye. show or just around town for fun. "If you are interested in this car I can share a link to an online album with about 60 pictures. The only point I would emphasize in the above listing is the reference to the paint. The paint is absolutely fine. as you will see in the pictures. but it is not as excellent as the rest of the car. I have tried to include a few pictures where this is evident. although it is very hard to capture. as indeed the car looks beautiful. To the public it's absolutely gorgeous; to those of us who know. you can see some orange peel in the right light. and there are very slight blemishes in some of the body panels--again. only if you catch them in the right light. If the paint were as perfect as the rest of the car this would likely go in the 70s. I applied for and received a BMIHT certificate. It does not appear that the numbers are matching. if that is of concern. The engine is very close in number to the original--it is a true '67 big Healey engine. The repaint is in the proper BRG. Please submit a request for the photo album link if interested. Payment via PayPal. shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. although I will help with arrangements. |
