Description of 1959 Chevrolet El Camino |
Up for sale here is a 1959 Chevrolet El Camino. This car is another Texas barn find we came up with. The car has not been tagged since 1985. We got the car started and drove it around the block a couple of times. The 6 cylinder engine sounds very good and looks like it is either a new engine or rebuilt recently. The engine does not make any noise and is not smoking. The odometer shows 68800. The transmission went in forward and reverse with out any noise and rear end felt good during the drive. The truck was originally a 3 speed with colum shift but has been converted to an automatic at some point in the past. The body is in pretty decent shape. There is rust in the floor pans behind the seats. There has been a poor attempt made at replacing some of the metal. There was some sheet metal cut out and a new piece screwed in to fill the hole. There is also evidence of more rust under the back window and in the very back of the floor pans. The rest of the body looks to be pretty well rust free. Apparently the previous owner was in the early stages of getting it ready to repaint. All the chrome moldings were removed when we got the vehicle. We could not find all the screws and clips. We put all the moldings back on the vehicle to show that they are all there. but about half of them are either held on with tape or just 1 or 2 screws that we came up with to hold the pieces in place. The interior is mostly all there and in fair shape. I have not found the door panels yet. so do not count on those being included. The carpet and pad have been pulled out at some point in the past. The pans in the front are in good shape. The car has had some priming done to it. but it does not look as if it was to cover up any rust in the body panels. I do have a clean Texas title in hand. The title is not in my name. but is signed in all the right places and ready to transfer. The car is located about 50 miles east of Amarillo in zip code 79065. It must be paid for in full before it goes on a trailer. If you come to pick up the truck and feel that I mis-represented it in any way I will refund your money in full. Ask any questions you have and I will get you an answer asap. 4-5-15 Went down and did some more work on the El Camino today. We bled out the brakes and got them working. Took the truck for another drive this afternoon. The powerglide transmission shifted into high and had no issues. We got the truck up to about 40 mph - everything felt and sounded good. The front brakes were a little grabby at first. but got better each time they were applied. Found a poor metal repair in the front floor pan. The earlier statement about the front pans being good is not correct. The pans will need replaced. I have a buddy that has a lift. We are going to put the car up on and get some pics of the underneath of the car. but he is out of town and will not be back until Wednesday. I will get those then and add them. There has been some metal work in the fender wells in the bed. Pics are added. I think the corregated section of the bed has been replaced from another vehicle. This is a bolt in replacement. but has a different color paint on it. Forgot to add earlier. the front windshield has several cracks in it - will need replaced. I do not want any confusion with a potential buyer on what you are getting with this vehicle. I have been messing with cars for nealry 50 years and I feel I have a fair idea of what I am talking about. That being said. my idea of what is good or bad may not be the same as your idea. I will be available almost every evening this week from 4:30-5pm Central Time until dark and most of next weekend. If you are serious buyer. send me your phone number and I will schedule a time when I will call you and do a walk around on the car. If I can figure it out or get one of my kids to show me how. we can face-time and you can see for yourself what I am looking at while we talk. Please ask any and all questions before auction end. Thanks for looking. |
