Description of 1976 International Harvester Scout

1976 Scout 2 with the one year only feather decal package. I have owned this truck for over 20 years. I hate the idea of selling it, but I can't see it sitting around anymore. It was originally a 345/727 truck with factory air. When I got it, the previous owner had started to strip that out, so everything under the hood is missing. It has a Rough Country 4" suspension lift, Dana 44 axles on both ends with front disc brakes and 3:55 gears. Transfer case is the Dana 20. This truck was my daily driver for the first several years I owned it. Odometer mileage is 155,000 I think. I'll confirm if it's important to you, I just forgot to look when I took these pictures. Front bumper was one of the last Back to Basic bumpers from D and C Extreme before the company changed hands, and was actually a raffle prize at the IHSTO Christmas party many years ago. I never had the original bumper. Front seats are from a 1990's Honda if I recall. Originally had the bench seat but it was toast.

As you can see, the body tub is very solid. The only rust spot I couldn't get pictures of is a small hole in the very back corner of the floor on the right rear where the original top leaked and rusted through. After several years of driving, the original 345 suffered the typical cam bearing problem, so I parked it for a bit. Then I elected to swap in the Dodge 360/727 from a 1975 Dodge Class C motorhome. I bought a good used IH output shaft and had a transmission shop swap it in and refresh the transmission. Then everything bolted back together, so no special drivelines or mods required. Advance adapters had an awesome motor mount kit and it dropped right in. Radiator is from a 72-93 Dodge pickup with the mounting flanges reversed. The factory holes in the flanges lined up exactly with the factory mounting holes in the core support. I was shocked!

I drove it this way for a couple of years and then the rear axle decided to do the famed axle tube misalignment. So I parked it and just used it on my property to move trailers around and do chores with. Then one day the head gasket failed. I fixed that, but it lasted for a day. I believe it might have a cracked head, but I don't know. About that time I ended up in a divorce and I haven't gotten back to it. It will run and drive itself around enough to load it up, for sure. If you like, I still have the complete, original engine and transmission for it, along with a 304 from an early Scout that I thought I might build for it someday. Those are available if you want them.

It'll drive itself onto a trailer. You will need to arrange shipping if you don't come and get it yourself. Thanks for looking!
