This beautiful Packard 8 (1201) Rumble Seat Coupe is a full classic and would be a welcomed at most concours events. It is an amazing find for the right person. I discovered it a couple of years ago tucked away in a garage for almost 40 years. A restoration had been started in the early 1970s. but never completed. It had been partially disassembled. Many of the original parts were in boxes . and many new parts had been sourced at a time when they were still available. Therefore there are many duplicate and spare parts. some new. some used. some still wrapped in newspapers from the 1970s. The steel portions of the car. including the body and the undercarriage were in incredible condition. There was no rust and no collision damage. perhaps due to the fact that the car had spent the last four decades in hibernation. The entire undercarriage could pass for a car that is only a few years old. I had the entire car stripped to bare metal. painted. and reassembled. When I purchased the car. I was told that the engine had been rebuilt just before halting work on the restoration. I could not be sure of this. and in any case I could not risk damaging the engine by trying to start it without knowing its true condition. so I had it disassembled to the extent of removing the head for inspection. It had clearly been rebuilt. In fact. the interior of the engine looked like new. It was professionally re-commissioned. needing only a carburetor rebuild and a new fuel pump. and it started easily and ran beautifully. The only problem was that it would run off of an external gas can. but not the fuel tank. The problem was diagnosed as a clogged fuel fitting on the fuel tank. so the entire tank was removed. serviced. and re-installed. Nothing was done on the interior of the car. or the rumble seat. All of the parts appear to be there. and hard as it may be to believe. the leather on the front seat back is in very good condition. But the new owner will want to plan on re-doing the interior. The tires (including the Dual Side-Mounts are very old and are probably not safe to drive on. The new owner will need to do the final assembly of the interior. and complete any minor sorting before the car will be road-worthy. As mentioned. it appears that all of the parts are there. many of them new. including an entire exhaust system. PLEASE NOTE: Everything in the photos. particularly the interior and undercarriage are dusty. but you can see the condition even in these photos. There is a file folder full of documentation that is included with the sale of the car. This includes documents. photos. handwritten notes. insurance cards. registrations. receipts and more dating as far back as 1965. This would be a perfect winter project. Please note: I have not started the car since May. Also. I do not have any additional pictures of the interior. The interior is filled with all of the parts for the interior as well as all of the spare parts mentioned earlier. The car is available for inspection by calling 516-524-4102. Thank you.
