Click image to enlarge Description 1951 Packard 300 SedanListed on behalf of the owner. Located in PORTLAND, OREGON. This Packard 300 Sedan was purchased new in 1951 by Robert E. Smylie, who at the time was serving as Idaho's Attorney General (1947-55). In 1955, Smylie was elected the 24th Governor of Idaho, a post he held for 12 years until 1967. This faithful Packard remained with him during this time. Since official vehicles were provided to Smylie as both Attorney General and Governor, the Packard saw only limited personal use by Smylie and his family. Eventually, the car was sold and in 1988 was purchased by the current owner in Portland, Oregon. Today, 30 years later, the odometer now shows just 60,300 miles, which is believed to be correct, total mileage. Affectionately dubbed "The Guv," over the past 30 years the car has been owned and maintained by a Packard collector and used as a tour car for various Packard Club events around the Pacific Northwest. Some years ago the car received a full driver-quality repaint in black Imron paint. Other than that, the car is very original throughout, including wearing its original chrome and trim, as well as the original interior, which presents nicely today. The only spot of wear is on the driver's side front seat cushion, from use over the years. All of the gauges and accessories work, including the factory radio and heater. The only item not working at present is the clock. Please see photos. Mechanically, this car is in very good condition, as one would expect from an original, 67 year-old, low-mileage Packard. About 7,500 miles ago the Ultramatic transmission was entirely rebuilt by a Packard specialist. Other work has been done as needed over the years, again by Packard mechanics who knew what they were doing. Today the cars runs and drives well. Please see video of engine running. The undercarriage is original and solid, as is the trunk. It wears older bias ply tires which are serviceable but the new owner may choose to replace for extended long distance touring. The auction also includes some spare parts and an original windshield visor for the car. This car is ready to continue touring as it is, or can be enjoyed while it is brought to the next level. The choice is yours. Packards of this era have a plentiful source of parts and are among the most comfortable road cars of the early 1950's era. They easily keep up with modern highway traffic and this car gets admiring looks wherever it goes. A reasonable reserve has been placed on the car. The only reason for selling is to make room in the garage. WE WILL HAPPILY SELL TO BIDDERS WORLDWIDE AND CAN ASSIST WITH SHIPPING ANYWHERE. Thanks for looking and GOOD LUCK!
